Spoilers Is Talinn past or future Laris?

Actually, there was a Laris in the alternate timeline, but she (and Zhaban) died when the Confederation laid waste to Romulus.
Was. Just like I said. although, admittedly, I think I'd forgotten that little nugget of info when I originally posted.

ok
Why cast the same actress to play a different person.
Something's afoot.

I'm going to say that they're going with the American Horror Story thing where the same actors return for each season but play different characters. However, I think the Tallinn / Laris link is very purposeful.

Ya.
Actors get reused. Not so quickly, same show, few eps later, playing character w similar traits.

I can see Tallinn being an ancestor of Laris, but nothing more. There's no reason for there to be any other kind of connection between the two.

Yup, right after Laris reveals her Romulan ear to Picard his line is:

Romulan. I knew it.
You could be an ancestor.

And Orla Brady said that they’re different characters with a possible connection, which seems to be exactly how it’s ended up. They’re different characters, likely related, like the multiple Soongs being played by Brent Spiner, and Kore being another Isa Briones role.

Multi season contract, wanted to reuse the actor.

It's kinda cool when all the soong family look like Data.

But now there are 3 characters that are the same as last season people running around and it's stretching suspension of disbelief
