How does someoneelses beliefs really impact me?

Traditonal family values, you mean like respect other people even if you might disagree with them? Honesty? Basic decency?

Not everyone celebrates Christmas, I suspect if a cup was brought out to celebrate another religions holy day(s) certain people would have a fit. At the end of the day if you feel that strongly about a lack of christmas themed cups (or how a company behaves) just boycot them, the free market at work.

Persecution complex is insane in America, especially by white Christian nationalists trying to turn the country into a theocracy.

Of course, but it still would have been nice if they at least had put out some kind of statement saying that Chris Rock's behavior was inappropriate, and that they are not OK with making fun of people's medical conditions.
    Hopefully.

Combining this thread's recent topics of white Christian nationalism and Will Smith, Marjorie Taylor Greene called the police on Jimmy Kimmel because he made a joke about "where is Will Smith when you really need him" in response to Greene saying the GOP senators who voted in favor of Ketanji Brown Jackson were pro-pedophile. So Kimmel reported her to Batman.

Shame about that pesky 1st Ammendment then which forbides Congress from establishing a state religion.

Didn't the GOP controlled state of Tennesse just have to ammend a marriage bill which they propsoed because it had no minimum age for marriage?

The problem is that the people in question are not willing to show basic decency and respect the people who disagree with their 'Traditional family values'.

He probably shouldn't have made the joke, but I don't want any kind of official standards declared for what is and is not okay to joke about. It's a judgment call by the comedian, and in that case he made the wrong one. People being able to make fun of each other is a big part of what helps people relax around each other and take themselves less seriously. Taking one's self less seriously is a lesson a lot of people need to learn right now.

"Equal opportunity offenders" should be welcomed in the realm of comedy, so long as the intent is to make someone laugh about themselves and relax and take themselves less seriously, not make them feel isolated, bullied, or inferior. That's why roasts are a thing. The standards for where the line is are extremely difficulty to judge and mistakes are going to be made, and some people are going to get offended. And that's okay.

In addition to the source on TMZ which was already mentioned earlier, a few days ago Chris Rock's brother also said that Chris Rock did not know about Jada Pinkett Smith's medical condition when he made that joke, and that if he had known then he would not have made that joke at all. Of course, it's hard to say how plausible that is when it comes to people in a high-profile industry. But maybe we as the viewing public shouldn't be so quick to automatically assume bad faith with things like this.

I didn't know about her condition, would have assumed it was for a TV or movie role if I'm honest.

Don't know how widely publicised it was and if Rock would have known. Will Smith seemed to find it amusing until he realised his wife didn't.

I hope people do find it in their hearts to forgive all involved though.

I'm not saying we need to official standard, but there are still certain lines that you should not cross, and medical conditions, especially ones that effect how you look are way, way over that line for me. If you know the person, and you know that they're OK with jokes about it that's fine, but if you don't know the person, and how they feel about it, you just don't go there. For a while I had some medical conditions that effected the way I moved and walked, and the absolute last thing I would have wanted was someone standing up on a stage making fun of me.
OK, that's good to know, and definitely changes things.

Especially during heavy rains when everybody should really be going out of their way to be much more careful on the road.

Sometimes not being able to drive and having relying on other people to get around can get annoying. I'm starting to think about learning to drive again, I tried back when I turned 16, but I just couldn't get the hang of it. Even after all of the classes, I was still running stop signs and forgetting which side of the road to drive on.

Like many things driving becomes almost second nature after a while, and even the most experienced of drivers will still make mistakes from time to time.

SUV driver who isn't in the left turn lane apparently realizes turning left is the way to go, tries to switch lanes with another SUV right beside them. Even thought right SUV can't see left SUV, apparently left SVU can see right SUV and honks. Accident avoided.

A couple years back I was in another city and I accidentally turned the wrong way onto a one-way street. :alienblush: Thankfully, I realized it very quickly and I was able to pull into a parking lot. I'm not used to one-way streets since there aren't any where I live.
