What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

"Precious Cargo(ENT)" is the nadir of Enterprise. "TATV..." at least had an interesting premise even if it was completely botched. The Kriosian episode was just abysmal on every level.

Here are some fresh ratings I just pulled from IMDb:

DS9 - Move Along Home - 5.8
DS9 - Profit and Lace - 5.8
TOS - The Alternative Factor - 5.8
TNG - The Child - 5.8
TNG - Man of the People - 5.8
DS9 - Resurrection - 5.7
TNG - Angel One - 5.7
DS9 - The Muse - 5.7
TOS - Spock's Brain - 5.6
DS9 - Meridian - 5.6
DS9 - Let He Who Is Without Sin... - 5.6
TOS - The Way to Eden - 5.4
Enterprise - These Are the Voyages... - 5.3
Voyager - Threshold - 5.3
TOS - And the Children Shall Lead - 5.2
TNG - Code of Honor - 5.2
Voyager - The Fight - 5
TNG - Sub Rosa - 4.8
TNG - Shades of Gray - 3.4

I think the site's good for giving you a ranking of episodes within a series, but it's not so good at comparing between series. I'm saying that because look how few TAS, Voyager and Enterprise episodes are in that list!

It seems that every series making one or a very few truly execrable episodes (besides a lot of good or even fine ones) is one of the oldest and finest Star Trek traditions, started by TOS and still adhered to today.

"Precious Cargo" is the episode that gave us the nickname Princess Fishstick for Padma Lakshmi. The one positive memory from that episode after 20 years.

The only redeeming quality of that episode is you can watch it muted and ogle Padma Lakshmi.
The two defining women in Anakin Skywalker's young life, in one thrill-packed episode of The Clone Wars! I wonder if the 'Precious Cargo' is the midichlorians?

Yeah, 'awful' is really a term that applies to a very few Star Trek episodes. And many of the ones considered poor still have a couple memorable scenes. Or are at least worth a few laughs.

'Dated' doesn't count as a reason because the production value depends upon the time the episode was produced and the budget, etc. Say, though, if something feels dated at the time of first airing, then you have a problem. Enterprise's series finale fits that definition to me.

There are many decent, good and fewer great/"perfect" episodes. Of any long-running series, let alone a franchise.

Spock's brain is campy and silly, but still in an amusing way. It's therefore not one of the very, very worst episodes. That's just my subjective evaluation of course.
You certainly don't forget its existence. There are literal swaths of Star Trek I've forgotten. lol

A list like IMDB... not sure how accurate it really is.

I'm sure a lot of people can agree on certain episodes... "AND THE CHILDREN SHALL LEAD", "SPOCK'S BRAIN", "Code of Honor", "Sub Rosa", "PROFIT AND LACE", "THE EMPEROR'S NEW CLOAK", "FALSE PROFITS", "FAVORITE SON", "PRECIOUS CARGO", and "THESE ARE THE VOYAGES...". (I figured two per live show was a good start to find commonly hated episodes.)

I think I can agree with most of those.

Pretty much. "Favorite Son", ironically, was originally supposed to reveal that Harry actually was an alien, allowing his character to go in a radically new direction. Might have been Voyager's answer to "Nog joins Starfleet".

Somewhat off topic, but I just thought of something funny.

Anyone ever seen the Cascade commercial with Sterling K. Brown saying he has a dirty little secret and that he does it every night? His delivery is just hilarious, and for some reason, I keep thinking we should have a Starfleet equivalent.

Like... Picard coming into view, and saying he has a dirty little secret. "I do it every night." And then we see him in his quarters, and putting his empty dishes into the replicator.

Or... Quark. With his smile saying, "I've got a dirty little secret." He winks at the camera, touches his lobe slightly and says, "I do it every night." Then we see him behind the bar, putting his dirty dishes in the replicator.

:)
