Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

Tennant aside the list is basically the same names who always crop up, people with prior commitments and people who are at a stage of the career where they're not spending three years in Cardiff.

Looking back to last time, Jodie's name didn't crop up until a week or two before the announcement, basically at the point where the number of people in the BBC who knew started to increase.

I'd love it if they did a Tennant fakeout though and then have the 60th be a story where time is broken and the Doctor keeps changing into past incarnations as they would be if they never regenerated (which solves the aging actor problem) before revealing the real new Doctor at the end.

So, The Dark Dimension, basically, but with Tennant instead of Tom Baker. :)

It's a fanwanky story, and Adrian Rigelsford is not an appealling person, but the basic concept behind The Dark Dimension was, imho, sound.

Oh no, I hope they don't break time again! I hate it when time gets broken!

Though I was also thinking earlier about how it'd be different to have a multi-Doctor story where they go through previous regenerations until the problem's resolved by the brand new Doctor at the end. But that'd mean the Doctors can't interact with each other and that's most of the fun of a multi-Doctor story.

I would not be surprised if they keep the new doctor announcement until 23rd November, just for symmetry.
I would be shocked if the announcement is held back for that long. That news release that suggested "in the coming weeks" aside, I expect we'll get the announcement sometime this summer at the latest.

I would love a regeneration where the doctor was in control and we slowly transitioned to the new doctor as the regeneration effects glow around them

Doctor- You forgot who I am. I'm.....

*WHOOSH*

New Doctor- .......The Doctor

DWM will likely be the ones to break the news for keeping the faith, but… well, the Beeb will want it high profile, this is likely in some peoples view the one that makes or breaks the show.

I think they should subject the new person to the same painful humiliation Capaldi had to endure.

It's only fair.

I want a real Tardis but a photoshopped cardboard cut out of the actor this time around, and instead of after Wimbledon, maybe they should stick on after snooker, or the antiques roadshow.

Producers- Laser light show. A three ring circus! and Zoe Ball again! It'll be great!

The way they announced him like it was a talent show was hilarious.

The new person starts filming on Monday. You can only film so much in secret before somebody will spot who's who on location and spread pictures on Twitter and Instagram. At which point your big reveal hope is over. I suspect the Jubilee weekend is about the furthest out they can really hope to go for a big splash, and I'd suspect it'd be within a couple of weeks.

No no no, certain posters who understand these things have made it clear that the new Doctor won't be hired for months yet ;)

That and the ‘vaguely celebs getting vaguely sloshed in a studio like it’s a hootenanny’ were so oddly painfully nineties.
