So revisiting the Cage roots.

Cool.
I agree! You're talking about someone who's a highly-decorated Starfleet Captain, peak physical and mental condition see an unavoidable future that has him confined to a wheelchair, complete vegetative state.

He did all he could to finish the mission against Control, have the shakedown of the repaired Enterprise and get back home to breathe and absorb what he saw.

And actually, I like it. Having the mental breakdown and weigh your emotional overload in the middle of the critical situation isn't quite the way to handle things if you're a professional (I'm looking at you, Discovery)

And in the clip shown during the Pike intro trailer, I like how he discusses it with Spock, with Spock mentioning something he's pointed out over all his iterations through all of Star Trek, that having that fear is the drive that gives you the courage to continue and keep pushing forward.

It also highlights how Pike is very much an introspective man. That is consistent across his portrayals. He is a leader, yes, but within himself each decision is weighed against what his own moral compass and values as a man. He and Kirk share that similarity as reflected in "Balance of Terror" and "Conscience of the King," among others, where Kirk weighs his decisions and judgements including the possibility of him being in error.

Pike's journey is consistent from Trek's early days and all the more interesting for it.

Maybe Spock Amok takes place 7 years previous to Amok Time, making it a Pon Farr prequel of sorts? Perhaps Spock’s Pon Farr is a running joke in this episode, it would make Amok Time seem all the more dramatic and gritty.

SO! WHAT ARE YOUR - ahem, forgive me. What are your thoughts on those other episodes titles and blurbs?

Captain Pike suffering from depression/pre-traumatic stress disorder confirmed.

Well, of course he is.

This is fine. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

Thanks for reposting a synopsis that we've already read. But, as is entirely evident now, your eagerness to declare a "gotcha!" moment at the expense of a series you knew nothing of substance about at the time has resulted in your making an overly broad, wrong-headed and misinformed interpretation of that logline.

That's an error that you might profit from remembering in future posting.

It'll definitely be a nice change of pace to stream a live action episodic drama (not just Star Trek, but in general).

Ironically Orville will be around the same time. For all the DIS/Orville comparisons, SNW will probably be far more similar.

There's a certain Orville-esque quality to some of the banter in the trailers, isn't there?

Honestly, I don't expect the writing to be nearly as wildly inventive as MacFarlane's show. Among other things, there's still the weight of too many expectations - the studio's, as well as the viewers' - larded onto a long-established franchise, and therefore a lot less license for the producers. This thing's gotta sound like Star Trek, damn it - whatever that means.

Sad but true. However, it will be interesting to see with Orville on its last season how that will impact the viewership.

I doubt we're gonna get real viewing numbers for either show since they're both streaming exclusives.

Whether they are true or not true, I like the sound of these. It’s nice to get back to classic Star Trek plot lines. I don’t think I’ve been more excited for a Trek show than I have this one.

Yeah, really. Maybe we can get through one season of Trek without the goddamn Directive being invoked and debated?

Yes please.

ooh boy. these all sounds really good.

Strange New Worlds is the fourth (fifth if you wanna count Enterprise's Strange New World (No s)) title to take its name from the Opening Monologue of TOS.

The First was TOS "Where No Man Has Gone Before" The Fifth movie was "The Final Frontier", the third is Enterprise's "These are the Voyages".

I dunno if "Where No Man Has Gone Before" counts as its title inspired the opening monologue instead of it being taken from it. The original edit of WNMHGB includes a captain's log that sets up the show.
