... but not the Monkey Island you last saw in 2009.

Series creators Ron Gilbert & Dave Grossman have returned to pen the final installment of the trilogy they originally had in mind three decades ago, picking up where the bizarre ending of 'Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge' left off. Certain elements of the original third game, 'The Curse of Monkey Island,' will apparently be worked into the story (and forget the ones after that), while the original music composers and the immortal voice of Guybrush Threepwood himself, Dominic Armato, are returning. No word yet on other returning voice actors.

"My apologies to all the talented people who worked on [the later games] and the people who loved them, but I'd want to pick up where I left off. Free of baggage. In a carnival. That doesn't mean I won't steal some good ideas or characters from other games. I'm not above that... It won't be the Monkey Island 3 I was going to make in 1992. I'm not the same person I was back then. I could never make that game now. It is lost to time. Hopefully this one would be better." - Ron Gilbert, 'If I Made Another Monkey Island,' 2013

Will we FINALLY learn the Secret? :guffaw:

I used to love Escape From Monkey Island whenever that came out. Along with Grim Fandango, I had so much fun as the dialogue and voices were amazing.

I'm looking forward to this and might have to look for the older games in the series to see what I missed out on.

I rarely game on my laptop, but I'll be getting this. Fantastic. Very found memories of playing Monkey Island 2 (on about 11 or 12 discs?) on my Amiga back in the mid to late 90s.

Oh man - this is so much good news.

I love Monkey Island, so many hilarious memories and i love that Lucasfilm Games era with all those amazing games they put out.

Will have to definitely replay the whole series in preparation for this.

I spent a long time playing It Came From The Desert on the Amiga but could never get used to the way it switched from strategy to action but I liked the uneasy atmosphere and music. I was an impatient gamer back then and there are not many games I can remember completing.

Wish I still had my copy. I think it was 12 and at the time 3 discs was considered a lot. It must be the record for most discs used for an Amiga game. I think it might have been Monkey Island that made me upgrade my Amiga 500 because there was a game that would only run on an Amiga 500 that had a 500k RAM expansion. A whopping 1Mb RAM

I never was able to complete the game and gave up in frustration - usually the top down escape from the hospital levels were what got me  But it was am amazing game and i still think fondly about it, even if it got on my nerves ;)

I had an Amiga 2000 and also had to upgrade the RAM - i even installed it myself back in the day and felt like an Engineer or a Bomb disposal guy ( i was that nervous )

You really should dig up the first three games. I couldn't stand Escape from Monkey Island (seriously, Monkey Kombat can go fuck itself), but the first three games are legitimately some of the greatest of all time.

They're all available on Steam for a few bucks.

I know, I own them on it. :)

Tales of Monkey Island wasn't awful, either, and I thought the writing was a little sharper than it was in Escape from Monkey Island. I think you can get all the episodes for like $15 on Steam, though they go on sale all the time.

Congratulations on Nightowl1701 for luring me to the Gaming forum for maybe the first time ever. Not sure what else to say other than I hope people do have fun playing this monkey island game.

At long last... The wait is nearly over.
Your questions will be answered.
THE SECRET WILL BE REVEALED.

Not a big fan of the art style. The first few games despite being the pixels, felt quite alive, had lots of detail and evoked quite a lot of character. This on the other hand feels rather flat and lifeless. And not a fan of the long faces.
