Spoilers Fantastic Beasts 3 has been officially greenlit, and will be set in Rio de Janeiro

Looks fun! Looking forward to seeing it in theatre!

The Fantastic Beasts series has been okay, but nothing special. By the end of Deathly Hallows I was pretty much finished with the franchise. I"ll catch it on streaming at some point.

If I went by not watching things with people I didn't like personally, I would be reading alot of books.. and me not seeing it wouldn't hurt J.K. in the least, but would hurt all the other people involved from the actors to the stage hands. If you enjoy the movies, go see them. But thats up to you.

My movie and music collection would be very thin if I canceled actors and musicians who have a different viewpoint from me.

It's funny. I remember when the religious nuts wanted to cancel her books because they promoted witchcraft. Then the far right got pissed when she dared to suggest that Dumbledore is Gay. Now the far left wants to cancel her because of her views on sexuality. She wasn't invited to the recent cast reunion, despite the fact that none of them would have a career if it wasn't for her books. Thin skin and pettiness reaches across both aisles.

The thing that really amazed me with Rowling, is that as more people spoke out against her, the things she was saying actually got worse. Usually with these situations, even if the person doesn't apologize for what they said, they at least stop talking about it.

Yeah, it sucks, but China is a huge market for movies, and they're not going to want to lose that market over what is probably a fairly minor part of the movie.

6 seconds if dialogue .. Or millions of dollars. I may not like it but I understand that a movie needs to make money.
You both sound like the network executives in the sixties who were worried about Uhura offending the southern states.

Yeah, and? You sound like someone with no financial stake in the movie. (Not that doing so would do you much good anyway, by the looks of the box office reports!) :rommie:

$20 million opening day. It's probably lower than projections, but higher than I expected. This movie has NO buzz. Even I'm not excited about seeing it.

EDIT: 40 million opening week is the estimate. Going to rely on the international box office to carry it to anywhere near enough for a sequel. I hate that they split the story into FIVE movies. Very high likelihood that we will never get an ending.

SECOND EDIT: $175 million international already, so we are pretty likely to get at least a 4th.

Was good but the series has Hobbititus .. It's being stretched needlessly. Should have stayed a trilogy or a quad.

I don't like it, but from a purely business perspective, especially when we're talking about something that you spent $200,000,00 making, and could potentially make you even more than that, you're going to want to get it in every market you can.
And for the Uhura situation, the whole point of Star Trek was to make a political statement, having Uhura on the show was an important part of that, and getting rid of her would have really hurt the show. I can't really see Doumbledore & Grindlewald's relationship really being that important a part of the movie's story. It's probably nothing more than a nice bit of backstory that they refer to once or twice.

To not do at least one last movie, and close out the phase on their own terms, would be a major embarrassment, but this way, maybe the WB can get some long-term creative control concessions from Rowling. Therefore, the suits might even prefer a disappointing box office this time around to a modest hit. Either way, however, two more flicks in this phase doesn't seem likely at all.

While I had been planning on seeing this, I've decided to skip it for Everything, Everywhere, All At Once instead.

Having seen this today, I really hope that Warner Bros. doesn't get gun-shy and goes ahead with Films 4 and 5 as planned, because this is a story that really deserves to get a conclusion regards of how people may or may not feel about JK Rowling as a person.

And you'd be mistaken.

Warner Bros. allowing China to demand censoring is going to result in a fair number of edits being made to some pretty significant conversations in the film.

Oh, OK wow, I'm pretty surprised then, and if that is the case, then maybe they shouldn't have been so quick to give in China's censorship demands.

The conversations needing to be censored are significant, but not to the point that they can't be edited.

It will result in Chinese audiences seeing a different film than the rest of the world, though.

Even as a trilogy it would be weak but at least it might force some creative momentum. They've basically given us 3 movies where nothing happens and no characters have grown or developed.
