Russell T. Davies Returns to Doctor Who as New Showrunner

In all honesty I don't think Izzard is a good enough actor.

Would love Siddig, have wanted him to be the Doctor for a long time.

The only thing I've seen Karan in is The God Complex but she was wonderful, at the time I was bummed that Rita wouldn't end up a companion, it'd be ironic if she ended up the Doctor.

Izzard and Siddig would have been fine twenty years ago. Hell, even a decade ago. I can't see RTD or the BBC wanting an actor around 60, the Hugh Grant rumor notwithstanding. Not with the franchise in the state it's in. Early 30s I think is what we're looking at.
Yeahhhh...I've been rooting for those for so long that it's hard to stop, even though I know you're completely right.

Maybe in a divergent universe...

She's also wonderful in The Darjeeling Limited and The Night of.

Unfortunately, she's already the lead in another show, so it's unlikely to happen.

Iwan Rheon I always thought would be a good choice as the Doctor. He played a tragic but sometimes intense character really well on Misfits, and given Ramsay's more jocular side on Game of Thrones, he could do the comedic aspect of the Doctor well too.

Vicious also showed his comedic chops, holding his own against the likes of Ian McKellen and Derek Jacobi!

I found a list of suggestions I made in the summer of 2002, and my top two choices were Malcolm McDowell and Stephen Fry. Either would have worked at the time, I'd have loved to see either as the Doctor, and I will forever wonder what might have been. :)

That's so cool!

I only know/seen this part

He relentlessly hounded the production

In August 1972, Miss Newman complained about Capaldi in a letter to Mr Miller. She said: ‘You’re not by any means worse than Peter C... I think he’s the end and I wish the Daleks or someone would exterminate him or something to that effect.’

Mr Miller recalled the harassed BBC secretary even jokingly asked him to ‘sort him out’.

He said: ‘During the next phone call to Sarah, I asked how things were going with Peter Capaldi. "Oh god, I wish someone would sort him out." Then she paused. "Actually, he lives in Scotland too - could you pop over to Glasgow and sort him out for me?"'

Well, you can't question his passion, and look were it got him, but it's a Daily Fail artical, no doubt at the time he was getting the part they were looking to dig up any what they deemed as dirt for their rags, and this is the best they could come up with, teenage Dr Who fan sends more than one letter to Dr Who fans club and BBC, oh the horror. lol

Was it in this thread where there was discussion about the timing of new Doctor press reveals? If so, then Mr. Tardis presents a neat lil' summary of when and how those announcements were made. If, on the other hand I have confused threads, just tell me where the video should be more logically posted.

To be pedantic "Expected" to be announced. That's speculation from the person writing it rather than an official BBC announcement.

To be fair, that is BBC's official website. They ought to know many will rightfully think seeing "the next Doctor is expected to be announced in coming weeks" and think it means the announcement is imminent. If that's not the case, they really should have left it vague with "the next Doctor will be announced at some future date" or not even mention the new Doctor at all.
