Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Yeah, we got Star Trek a growing success on the smallscreen again with solid reviews and viewing figures, but YouTube is lacking in quality reviewers and it's skewed towards the "GameGate" side of the idiotic Culture Wars of the Current Year (ugh).

They all come across as angry, overly opinionated conmen.

That's what gets them clicks, which turns into revenue. Anger and outrage. Why else would people waste hours of their lives watching a show they don't like and then creating hour long reviews attacking the show? They have their reasons - it's even worse for people who don't like the show, but still spend hours watching negative reviews of shows they don't like.

I guess you no longer like/think much of Patrick Stewart now:

Yes.

So yeah, it seems Sir Patrick took a very hands on approach WRT the p[lot and the storylines for the entire Picard series to date.

That is not a good sign. Especially in the case of Patrick Stewart.

Giving actors control or input on the characters they play is usually a bad idea. There are very few examples where this works and this is definitely not one of them.

Patrick Stewart should have no input on the character of Jean-Luc Picard. That should be the job of the writers.

Allowing Patrick Stewart to have some input on the character of Jean-Luc Picard was a bad idea during the TNG movies and it's a bad idea now.

Patrick Stewart's "inputs" gave us the dune buggy scene and action Picard.

it's not 'desperation'

It is.
In the middle of a season, they showed a teaser trailer for the next season and announced a massive cast addition.

"fans" like yourself

Oh, here we go again.

If there are any open questions if a certain storyline in the current season of Picard took some inspiration from Battlestar Galactica, there is your answer:

WTF?
A showrunner advertises the next episode of his show, not just by announcing a new actor, but also by referring to a previous, and very famous, role of that actor from a very popular and acclaimed SciFi show that was created by a showrunner who was a writer on Star Trek.

Trying to hype up the popularity of our own show by associating it with the popularity and success of a different SciFi show.
Holy S!.

Seriously dude, you've earned a Lifetime Achievement Award for stupid complaints, but whining that the showrunner mentions the huge scifi property the upcoming guest actor is most famous for has got to be the dumbest complaint yet. In what bizarre fever dream is this announcement possibly considered a negative?

Stretch Armstrong, Plastic Man, and Mr. Fantastic are asking you to take the stretching to find something to whine about down a notch or ten.

OMG, the showrunners are pulling up to the studio in cars! Holy S! This is an outrage. They are so creatively bankrupt, you guys! They should have parachuted in to work instead. Where's the integrity?

Your post is really sad. The showrunner also worked with him on another show he ran (12 monkeys ), which is also mentioned in his post. It’s also obvious Terry is a sci-fi fan and James responded so they have a good working relationship and may be friends. And Terry didn’t announce that James was appearing in the episode and wasn’t the first to post the picture. It was announced and released by paramount earlier in the day.

WTF!? Now they're just blatantly reusing the same musical instruments as in Star Trek: The Motion Picture? It not only pisses on all of modern Trek, it pisses on all previous Treks and even things Roddenberry worked on in the past. The Lieutenants is being pissed on as we speak because of the reuse of the TMP blaster beam. Why aren't you guys all as outraged by this development as I am? Star Trek has truly been thrown in the rubbish bin.
