Spoilers Season 3 Cast Announcement

There is no axe to grind, I've said that I hope it is successful. But you're kidding yourself if you think this is happening for any other reason than CBS believing they will make a lot of money off of it.
It's a nice closure. And it can make money. No one is kidding themselves about that. But you're kidding yourself if you don't think it's about closure at all. ;)

It really isn't. Because, if wildly successful, CBS will just start recasting the characters to keep that sweet, sweet cash flowing. All that matters to the people at Viacom is the ledger sheet. See: Strange New Worlds

It's closure for this cast. It's their TUC.

They'll recast TNG at some point. But it'll be TNG with a different cast, so it'll be something else altogether. We don't go around calling the Kelvin Films or SNW "TOS" because they're not. It'll be the same deal with a recast TNG.

There's no raining on anyone's parade. If one is comfortable in their views, a little dissenting opinion shouldn't bother them.
The only point I'm making is that you're absolutely fooling yourself if you don't think closure for the TNG cast is involved. Whether you're happy about that or not is up to you. But it's part of it for sure.

Now you're intentionally misunderstanding. I've made it clear that it serves as closure for the original TNG cast. Just like TUC for TOS.

Making money is always a consideration. But that doesn't exclude other motivations as well.

But you're set on grinding this silly ax of yours. Whatever.

Honestly, ever since I became a hardcore Niner, I can't see Worf as anything but a DS9 character who happened to be on TNG first.

What I'm hoping most for PIC S3 is that they work on developing the characters in a way that TNG never did. Riker and Troi's appearances in S1 give me hope.

Doug Drexler also says Worf does not look like a Discovery Klingon.

Yeah, you can't change Worf -- he's too iconic. I suspect that if the creators of DIS had known that they would bring Worf back a few years later, they might not have re-designed the Klingon makeup so extensively.

Personally, I think the best bet would be to include both TNG-style and DIS-style Klingons, and throw in a line saying that the DIS-style Klingons were another mutation caused by the Augment virus.

I think the best thing to do would be what Enterprise should have done... not try to explain it away. Just have Klingons with different appearances and leave it at that. I found the throwaway lines in "Trials and Tribble-ations" to be far more satisfying than the whole "augment" storyline.

Well, I mean, the TOS Klingons were updated in their DS9 appearances, so there's precedent.

But, yeah, changing Worf would be unwise.

That would be valid too, and I probably would prefer to go with that if ENT hadn't explained the TOS Klingons almost twenty years ago. But given the ENT precedent, my impulse would be to explain the DIS Klingons using the same plot device.

A little late for that in continuity.
