Don't believe any of them.
These days, it's pretty tough to keep things a secret for these types of things.
Ask Andrew Garfield about that. And he tried.

Faulty logic. Because thing (A) is true does not mean things (B-Z) are true.
Plus the NWH spoilers came with photos and video.
I'm pretty sure there have been quite a few over the years, but I can't think of any offhand. I think this is the kind of thing where we tend to remember the stuff that comes true, and forget about the stuff that doesn't.\
I can't remember the last time I read about a rumour that didn't end up on the screen. But of course, this is all about what I've anecdotally remembered, so it's not something that can be proven until release.
All roles can be recast, the audience is quick to catch on with these things.

I remember back in the day (2014) the 'surest' rumour was that Age of Ultron ended up with Hulk going out of control and being last-ditch fired into space, Planet Hulk was in Phase 3 and World War Hulk was Avengers 3.
But common sense with the Universal deal meant this was literally impossible to happen.
I think a lot of the big differences here is the difference between rumours and vocal fan desires. Like the Mephisto thing. Fans just want their next big bad like Thanos and to them, it seems it's either Galactus or Mephisto. So those are less rumour and just fans being dumb. To me, at least.
Except you can't really prove whether a rumor is a 'real' rumor or not.
True. As I said, common sense has to step in somewhere with at least some of them.
You’re thinking in 2022 terms. But common sense with the Universal deal meant this was literally impossible to happen.
You’re thinking in 2022 terms.
In 2014, we were only 2 films into Phase 2 and every head in Hollywood had been turned by The Avengers takings. It didn’t sound unreasonable that Universal would team up with Marvel Studios for a second time for a follow up to The Avengers as it stood a good chance of achieving a better return than the Ed Norton MCU Hulk film.
I mean obviously it was BS but Universal had already collaborated. A solo Hulk film deal then (pre-Sony email leak) seemed not unreasonable. And the Hulk going beserk part of the rumour leaned on the Hulkbuster concept art leak.
I mean, it’s an 8 year old BS rumour based on precedent (Universal worked with Marvel already) and leaked concept art, but referring jokes Ruffalo made which post date the rumour by three years is exactly what I meant when I said you’re thinking in 2022 terms, not what seemed half-way possible and not entirely implausible in 2014I think a well informed person knew this wasn't happening as every interview with everyone always brought up the legal trouble of doing it and how they had to work around the deals to get what they wanted done. Ruffalo would joke often that Universal didn't want to make money and flat out say it could never happen, but they had great plans for the character, regardless. It was pretty black and white, especially before the miracle of the Sony/Disney deal.
Good thing they can just wipe everything clean with Flashpoint if they want and start over.
