Spoilers Season 3 Cast Announcement

8 years. next to the Kelvin Enterprise (2258-2263), that is that shortest I've seen a starship be in service. The Kelvin Enterprise lasted Four years 10 months and 23 days.

Actually a lot of our hero ships seem to have short lifespans. In fact the Enterprise-D doesn't do too badly by these standards.

The Defiant NX-74205 was around for less than 5 years, 1 month, and 22 days, going by stardates (there is no stardate for the episode where she's destroyed but there is for the next episode, which is set in the immediate aftermath of that battle).

The Enterprise-A was apparently retired in 2293, since the Enterprise-B is launched that year; that would give her a service life of only seven years. It's often suggested that the Enterprise-A was an existing Constitution-class ship that was simply renamed, so she could have been much older, though Scotty does refer to it as a "new ship" that "must have been built by monkeys" in a log entry in Star Trek V.

The Academy plaque for Voyager in Picard S02E01 suggests she was taken out of service in 2378 immediately after returning to the Alpha Quadrant, making her service life also even less than the Enterprise-D's.

I do think we may see at least one of them at the end of Season 2 (hopefully not Riker again). They filmed back to back, so it wouldn't be unusual to do pickups during Season 3.
They apparently shot some Season 3 stuff during Season 2 filming.

And to all those who don't want any TNG characters in the TNG character show with the TNG character name... go watch Disco, LDS, PRO, SNW... plenty of other shows for everyone.
The show was pitched as NOT TNG 2.0. That's what made it interesting to me (and a number of others, I'd wager). I had zero problems with the episode in S1 with Riker and Troi. Had no issues with Spiner as Data in S1 either. They were in separate episodes, with story elements germane to the moments they depicted. I don't expect to have my preferences catered to at all times, so I have no issue with the change of focus--at least no issue that extends beyond me. Didn't say anywhere I wouldn't watch it at all (haven't seen anyone who is less than fully enthused about this news make such a claim, frankly). Just as people who are happy with a particular iteration of a franchise have to cope with the fact others are not (I've been on the Yay! side more often than not on many such questions), people have to be ready to do the opposite. And expressing a bit of scepticism or lowered enthusiasm for something because of a new direction does NOT equal "hating it" or "wishing it failed" or any other such overly dramatic and overwrought reaction. It's simply a reflection of one's disappointment (no less or more valid than another's elation).

One thing I won't do is, if I really don't like it at all (unlikely, but possible), come and complain about each episode for not being "what I want". That would be rude (and pointless). I've seen every episode of every series of Trek (much of it multiple times, going back to 1973) except for Prodigy. I watched the first two episodes and gave up. It's not for me. But you won't find any post by me in that forum complaining about it. And while I can only speak for myself, I feel confident the number of people who have expressed a bit disappointment over today's news that will ALSO spend a lot of time "hate watching" and complaining will be quite small.

But the Defiant wasn't new when we first saw her, she'd been in mothballs at Utopia Planetia for years after the first round of testing.

In 2000, someone I knew who was a Trekkie told me he heard a rumor that the next Star Trek movie was going be a TNG/DS9/VOY Crossover. Though he was a Trekkie, I was more "in the know" than he was, and knew this wasn't true, but kind of nodded my head (I didn't want to dampen his enthusiasm).

He was off by a hair. The next TNG movie after Nemesis would've been a Mega TNG/DS9/VOY Movie. I'll look up a source for it later.

I have to wonder if Terry Matalas wants to bring this type of idea to life, except with it pared to the TNG Cast, PIC Cast, and only some from DS9 and VOY.

According to the background blurb on the Enterprise-D's memorial plaque that we see in the background in the Starfleet Academy scenes in S02E01, the saucer was salvaged from Veridian III and is in the Starfleet Museum (Dave Blass tweeted a close-up):

alongside Voyager and NX-01 :adore:

Prodigy Producer Aaron Waltke about Voyager

...As has been hinted elsewhere in Trek lore, the original Voyager was taken apart and studied upon its return to earth and it’s destined to be turned into a floating museum. In the meantime, Admiral Janeway has a new fast little ship to command....

The LCARS coloring is more Ent-E-ish than Stargazer's was in the first episode.

Given the Backstory of the Show, written by Star Trek Picard Co-Creator Kirsten Beyer for "Star Trek: Picard - Countdown"
Worf was promoted to Captain of the Enterprise - E
https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Picard_-_Countdown_(omnibus)

if he not lost the ship, i bet he still in command, because any next carrerstep means
usually, sitting behind a desk at Starfleet Headquarters and that not fits to him.

Captain Worf of the Enterprise-E... it's something I'd have to be able to see. As it is right now, I really just can't picture it. I'm not saying I think it's impossible. Just that it's... weird.

Captain of a ship like the Defiant, whose mission is combat? Sure. But the Enterprise? It's a different type of animal.
