You’re going to have fans on both sides of the coin. You can’t please everyone all the time. Apparently, there is a call for nostalgia in bringing back the entire TNG cast. I was not one asking for that but at the end of the day, that’s what they decided to do.
That could work for their benefit. They won't have to worry about being on Star Trek overshadowing them the rest of their careers and leading to typecasting. And today I feel bad for Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Isa Broines, and Santiago Cabrera. In 5 or 10 years time they won't be remembered for being in a Star Trek series. They became afterthoughts today.
That's all fine. I don't feel "cheated" or anything. It's just that I won't be as much in a hurry to watch an episode when it first airs. And maybe they have to find some way to get Data back to stop Lore?We probably won't need in thread spoiler tags for long because this casting news is about to be EVERYWHERE but was thinking:
Lore would make sense as a final villain considering the show's running arc about Soongs and Data
Terry Matalas just hinted on Twitter we're going to see a lot of Picard and Beverly screen time in Season 3.........
'Kay. But aside from the casts of TOS and TNG, who really is remembered for being on Trek? And even then, many TOS actors complained about typecasting limiting their work after TOS ended. That doesn't speak well to having the privilege of being cast on a Star Trek series. I mean I can imagine someone like Alison Pill getting a question about "What was this Star Trek thing you were in" and her saying "Oh that? Yeah I don't want to talk about that, thank god barely anyone remembers" (or something to that effect).
Yes, and they had careers before Trek and they’ll have careers after. Alison Pill has a pretty big body of work outside of Trek as do Cabrera and Hurd. Isa came from the stage. Hell, I saw her in the touring company of Hamilton a few years pre-Picard. I have her autograph. Didn’t know she’d be in Trek in a few years. To some people, this is just a job. Yeah, I’m disappointed we likely won’t see too much more of their characters, but like @The Wormhole said, this will likely work to their advantage as they won’t have the long arm of Trek shadowing over them.
And today I feel bad for Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora (Even though they basically wrote him out of Season 2 early), Isa Broines, and Santiago Cabrera. In 5 or 10 years time they won't be remembered for being in a Star Trek series. They became afterthoughts today.

It is way too soon to say this. I get that this BBS is for us to react and chew on things but it is way too soon to know what will happen with the existing PIC cast. I would be very surprised if the TNG cast is around for all 10 episodes, and if they are, let's see what the team comes up with before we make judgments.
Star Trek fans are the worst. If you do anything nostalgic or with existing characters, you're failing to forge your own path to make something new. But if you ignore previous characters and situations to make something different, you're pissing on your history. The people who make Star Trek today can't win.
Hype is an opinion. They don't feel it.I don't mean to be rude but this seems like a wild overreaction to a hype announcement like this.
