Star Trek Boots Seen After Star Trek

I'm wondering if these were the actual Star Trek boots, possibly available after the show was canceled. If not, meaning if the special could just go and buy boots like this at retail, then why would Star Trek have to pay for theirs to be custom made?

Or is it more likely that Paramount promptly sold the boots to Western Costume, who rented them out?

Other than the NBC connection, I'm not sure. Screen Gems (producers of the special and the Monkees) has some oblique Trek connections, but nothing direct.

I was more responding to the first part where you were wondering. But it sounds like you have more or less decided Western Costume got hold of them?

There's a typo in my last post. I meant to say "...if the boots were being rented..." Sorry.

I don't think we've settled the question of whether the Monkees were wearing actual Star Trek boots.

Well,

1. Those certainly look like Starfleet-issue boots to me. Good eye!
2. Maybe they were custom-made because of the sizes needed to fit the actors. I mean, supposedly Shatner had lifts and all. (Whether he actually did or not is a story for another day.)

Based on what I know about The Monkees, perhaps Davy could have worn Shatner's with the lifts?

I think that's possible in the photo. According to Google, Nesmith and Jones were ten inches apart in height, and I'm guessing they both got the Cuban heel Star Trek boots, Nesmith for fit and Jones out of necessity. And I'd bet Jones would have no trouble at all getting his feet into Shatner's shoe size. It wouldn't be a squeeze.
