Classic Star Trek IS GREAT!

I just watched CST episode #29 "Operation Annihilate" on DVD, man it was fantastic. The story was well written, well acted, I couldn't ask for a better way to spend 45 minutes .....Well, I could think of one better way, but not with my kids in the room.

My cable is out right now, and they won't send some one over until the day after tomorrow to fix it. We have plenty of movies, but I wanted something my sons could watch. I remembered that I had a bunch of the CST 2 epsiode DVD's that I haven't watched yet. Man that was perfect, and it kept my two boys entertained as well. The older one, age 11, asked me why weren't the new T.V. shows as good as these?

They wanted to watch epside #30 which is "Catspaw". I told them if they do their homework early like they did tonight, we will watch it tomorrow.

You are indoctrinating them well..keep it up...and soon they will be addicted for LIFE!!!!

CST? please, let's not come up with yet another acronym for TOS!

btw, the eps were around 50 minutes long! We didn't yet have 15+ minutes of commercials in the sixties. :)

Take out the credits and it's probably 47 or 48 minutes;)

Heh when I read "CST" I was trying to figure out why the poster was telling us he was watching the show in the Central Standard Time zone. Good work in indoctrinating a new generation is the awesomeness that is Classic Trek!

On the old VHS boxes, it said they were 52 mins, including the credits. So Forbin is probably right.

DS9 is. Check that one out next. ENT S4 also was starting to get as good as TOS. But I agree that in general, most recent Trek just doesn't have what TOS did.

Good times!

It's fun to bring up a new fan. Since december, my girlfriend started watching TNG with me (her idea!) and is getting really into it. She hasn't watched TOS yet and at the beginning showed no real interest because of the effects and such, but I think she's coming around. She'll ask questions about things that happened before the TNG era, or see a character like Sarek or Mccoy show up (we haven't gotten to the spock or scotty eps. yet.) and become curious. I figure finish TNG, go to the movies, then TOS......game, set, and match:rommie:

It's cool that your kids like it. I'm sure that will be a great bonding experience.

DS9 ain't a new TV show, though, it's an old TV show. Sounds like she means current shows on TV now, not specifically the "newer" Treks.

TOS is a fucktarded acronym though. I mean it's short for THE ORIGINAL SERIES. But the show ain't named "The Original Series" it's named Star Trek.

By all rights ST should be the acronym for ST and not fucktarded TOS. TOS was just invented by fans who were so fucktarded they couldn't keep Star Trek seperate from all the goddamn franchise crap that had subtitles like TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT. Personally I think it's best to seperate ST from the dread "franchise" that took the great ST name and dragged it through 17 years worth of pure horse manure.

DOWN WITH TOS! UP WITH ST OR CST! OR PLAIN OLD STAR TREK! HUZZAH! BOOYAKA! AND HURRAH! :D :D :D

Please not CST whatever you choose. My job involves working with people all across the country and I'm never going to see CST without thinking of Central Time Zone.

Hasn't that one been around for a while? I certainly recall some variation of 'Classic Star Trek' or 'Star Trek Classic' has an alternative to TOS which goes in and out of style as a minority option (a bit like VGR instead of VOY).

The older one, age 11, asked me why weren't the new T.V. shows as good as these?

DS9 is.

As is TNG. And yes, I know I'm in the decided minority when saying that. As for shows presently airing that are good for kids today, I haven't got a clue as what constitutes quality entertainment in that arena. There's probably something out there. I know Star Trek was a magical experience as a kid. Sitting up close to the screen and watching Captain Kirk deliver a speech about something, or Spock going on about logic... good times. :)

Star Trek will always be the best of the series. It has that chemistry between the crew only that show can create. The others never got near that same level.

Nah, competent actors can fake chemistry. Star Trek was simply more literate and professionally crafted than the other shows.

Actually, I agree with the sentiment.
I just gotta go with the consensus, so everybody knows what I'm talkin; about.

I'm new to these boards, bu I feel I have already made a friend :) I'm so with you on this one

Ugh! Catspaw is one of those episodes I wouldn't show anyone not familar with the original Star Trek. It is in there with the top five TOS episodes to ban from television for the greater good of reducing bad first experiences. I cannot tell you how many people watch those bad TOS episodes then go on message boards saying that TOS is crap or pure cheese, camp that should be forgotten.
