Game The Most Disliked Episode From The Hollywood Reporter's 100 Greatest Star Trek Episodes

"MORTAL COIL" is proof that you can do a Neelix episode without making him annoying or comedic relief. Damned good acting, and powerful message. It gets saved.

44. “Soldiers Of The Empire”, DS9 Season 5
58. “Hope And Fear”, VOY Season 4
61. “Take Me Out To The Holosuite”, DS9 Season 7
76. “Brothers”, TNG Season 4
77. “Damage”, ENT Season 3
78. “Crossover”, DS9 Season 2
92. “E2”, ENT Season 3
93. “His Way”, DS9 Season 6
95. “Home”, ENT Season 4

Crossover is a wonderful reintroduction to the Mirror Universe. The chemistry between the two Kiras was electric, and the stories about Kirk's original visit were intruguing.

Eliminating 58. “Hope And Fear”, VOY Season 4

Seeing a Starfleet vessel with a superior drive is tantalizing- even when we slowly start to suspect something is not quite right. Arturis plays his role very well, first seemingly friendly, later bitter, but always devoid of joy - as you would expect from a man in his situation. All in all it's quite a strong story with some nice character building between 7 and Janeway, too.

Some notable plot holes in "Hope and Fear," but I will admit that I snarkily relished Arturus calling Janeway to account for allying with the Borg in "Scorpion." (She didn't know what happened, could happen? Well, she knew something would happen -- and if she didn't, Chakotay was right there telling her.) Not nice? Eh. I'm not always a nice person.

EDIT:
Ninja'd! In that case, I'll save the baseball episode. And death to the opposition!

Damage was the excellent follow-up to Azati Prime, seeing how Archer maybe started to feel in over his head with the Xindi. This was the high-point of Archer as a character, for me.

76. “Brothers”, TNG Season 4
92. “E2”, ENT Season 3
93. “His Way”, DS9 Season 6

I will save #93, "His Way" from DS9 S6. I really liked a lot of the Vic Fontaine holosuite epusodes from DS9. This is not my favorite, but turning Odo into a player is hilarious. And Kira/Odo was as good as Trek romance got.

Saving 92. “E2”, ENT Season 3 . Speculating which crewmembers would pair off, and what their progeny would look like is kind of fun. Also to see an old T'Pol who has become much more comfortable with humans and her own emotions, even if she's frail by this time interact with 'our' T'Pol.

I was almost sorry to see this Enterprise erased.

76. “Brothers”, TNG Season 4
95. “Home”, ENT Season 4

Ugh. Insomnia. Brothers then, because I can’t remember a thing about the others.

95. “Home”, ENT Season 4

List got messed up over the last few posts but it looks like Home is the worst of the best?

Makes sense to me. It's a pretty unspectacular story, at least compared to the competition.

Another successful thread! I like how this game combined the two parters, so I didn't have to struggle to remember what happened in part 1 and what in part 2. That definitely helped me out.

Yeah, I always liked Brothers for Brent Spiner playing the Soong family. It's a nice enough episode, just not sure if it's a Top 100.

Home is an interesting loser, here. I think the main problem with this is it should have been at the end of season three, and then Storm Front could have stayed far away. :D

"MORTAL COIL" is proof that you can do a Neelix episode without making him annoying or comedic relief. Damned good acting, and powerful message. It gets saved.

Ethan Philips is phenomenal. You should also try to sit through TNG's "Menage a Troi" - he plays the evil Ferengi scientist and the level of menace he exudes... I'm beginning to understand typecasting more as I now want to see him in more horror roles, but I love him as Neelix* and he's definitely got impressive range. (Neelix has his moments that irk me, but it's down to the character attributes and not the acting.)

* well, one of the three people in the universe who seems to, anyway... :D

Inquisition is a great introduction to Section 31, and I love how Bashir is the one involved after his obsession with spies, be they holographic or Cardassian.

^^this

So glad this and the sublime 'Our Man Bashir' were saved.

I'm a little to this game, but there are a few here that rank among my personal favorites.

"OUR MAN BASHIR" is saved. 87th? I think the concept alone warrants a higher rank.

Easily, given how well they melded it.

Bashir playing in a James Bond homage, with a 'holodeck gone wrong' story where it actually is NOT going wrong, with a spotlight on Garak, too?

I think there's a bit of "Man from UNCLE" in there as well. Thankfully no "Get Smart", which is great as a spoof in its own right, but the writer knew how to keep this episode balanced... Not sure how anyone could hate this episode... it hits the right notes without being too campy but while maintaining a decent sense of threat in between it all. It's amazingly well done and few could pull it off.

The Garak/Bashir double-act rarely got better than in this episode and it's phenomenal.

The acting is certainly first rate, and Avery Brooks just nails it the best as Dr Noah (no relation to the 1967 spoof "Casino Royale', though I suspect that is the most direct reference the episode makes and if it was deliberate, I couldn't tell since the goofy grand scheme is a warped take on a great flood and all and Avery isn't trying to out-Woody Woody Allen's delightfully goofy role in the slightest (fortunately! Nobody does goofy better than Woody)...

GENIUS ON EVERY LEVEL!!!

^^this

Possibly my most rewatched episode in the franchise.

Top 5 for me...

(Side note: on paper, Ronald D. Moore might be the funniest writer in the franchise. Definitely among the most consistently good ones.)

One of my favorites as well!

I just wish Bashir had been involved in Sisko's game in "Pale Moonlight". It would have been the perfect pretext for him to be recruited by S31.

One wonders if Sisko was inspired by the existence of Section 31 to think of his plan to bring the Romulans into the war, since it was produced directly before "IN THE PALE MOONLIGHT". And the producers have been pretty keen on keeping events in episodes in order.

I'm one of the other two people who love Neelix. He is amazing in the Neelix episodes. Jetrel has some much complex stuff going on. Fair Trade showed that Neelix had managed to massively improve his life but he was still worried. In Once Upon A Time, Neelix is terrified and doesn't handle his fear well at all.
