Aliens We Haven’t Seen

That’s so funny. I thought he was referring to “Castilian” opera, as in from Spain. And maybe a disturbed soprano way back when killed herself after the performance of her life. And maybe others would do a ceremonial stabbing in the same spirit…

Welp, I guess we’ve got some new aliens, uh, “in the heavens.”

Ha. I can totally understand a misunderstanding like that happening, but no they are an alien species.
Though it should have made you suspicious that they weren't calling it music from "ancient" Earth ;)

Live action? Not so much. But Lower Decks is canon, and season 2 features Taylor the Kzin.
Yes, that's why I said live action. The "and canonically" parenthetical text was (obviously) meant to be in conjunction with it being live action. I inserted the parenthetical text, because behind-the-scenes for STV, the catlike exotic dancer was (or may have been) referred to as a "Kzinrrett".

TAS is also canon.

I mean kinda. And is it the same deal with Lower Decks?

I love the TAS for giving us the Aurelians, Edosian, Nasat, Vendorians, Phylosians…

And LD for showing an Aurelian, an Edosian, a Vendorian, a quadrupedal Ariolo (Federation Council alien from ST:IV), and some other non-typical humanoid aliens.

The Tzenkethi.

And technically, the Breen. ;)
There are several different ways to avoid the bumpy-headed-humanoid-of-the-week. Which has been done to death.

Have the entity wear a suit with helmet that obscures details. The entity may have a vaguely humanoid shape. However.... Consider the scene with Arnold Schwartzenegger, when the Predator takes off its helmet.....

So...Breen, please keep your helmets on! :)

The Tzenkethi? It has been suggested that they are either beautiful humanoids, or six limbed lizard things. These could be rumors that come from pure speculation. Maybe the ships are crewed by orcs, or Cylon robots.

Perhaps the only definite facts about Tzenkethi may be (border?) skirmishes with ships that don't conform to the configurations of any known space powers. Sort of like the Romulans before TOS-their actual physical appearance was long a mystery to Earthlings.

So the Breen are mysterious, and the Tzenkethi are even more mysterious! :)

Maybe the Breen language is a clue. What kind of mouth/vocal cords could make those noises?

I believe the Kzinti are canon, even if imported from Larry Niven's Know Space universe. I occasionally look at movie clips on YouTube. There are a few clips from "The Slaver Weapon" (TAS).

I’ve been thinking about how future Trek could include more non-humanoids in the Star Trek Universe. Aside from introducing new aliens or retconning the appearance of existing ones, though there’s plenty of precedent for that.
As for retconning, I think this would work only for species we have seen very little of. (Which could be interesting-consider CGI and Species 8472).

Some humanoid species have appeared often and have seen considerable development, such as Vulcans, Romulans, Klingons, Cardassians.... Hard to change them much without losing that Star Trek feel/flavor.

Hmmm okay, what about reconning then? What species would you change and how?

I’m thinking all the ones from “The Chase” are off limits. They’re humanoids. To the core.

EDIT: ooooh I’ve got the first one: multi-environment Jem’Hadar. They’re genetically-engineered, right? Imagine ones engineered specifically to fight (or to police) say on an aquatic world like a Xindi Aquatic colony. Or to be sky-dwellers on the Aurelian homeworld or in the skies of a gas giant — maybe the homeworld of the Medusans.

That would make sense, and it's my favourite kind of addition: something that leaves the stories we've seen unchanged.

First you'd have to be sure it's not some kind of voice modulator. The first Breen we ever meet make more human-like sounds when they get busted up. Which is of course just because no one had come up with the sound 'til later, but the easiest way to "fix" it is to assume they didn't have their modulators turned on.
