Aliens We Haven’t Seen

I’ve been thinking about how future Trek could include more non-humanoids in the Star Trek Universe. Aside from introducing new aliens or retconning the appearance of existing ones, though there’s plenty of precedent for that.

What are some aliens that we’ve only ever heard mentioned but never actually seen?

A few off the top of my head I can think of are the Jarada, Mathenites, Nyberrite Alliance, and the Barolians. And Vilix’pran’s species.

Some whose appearance is uncertain or contradictory include the Kobheerians, Talarians, and Katarians.

The Kasseelians with their deathly (for the performers) operas.
Or have they been shown since?
I like to imagine them as humanoids with colourful feathers/plumage instead of hair.

That’s so funny. I thought he was referring to “Castilian” opera, as in from Spain. And maybe a disturbed soprano way back when killed herself after the performance of her life. And maybe others would do a ceremonial stabbing in the same spirit…

Welp, I guess we’ve got some new aliens, uh, “in the heavens.”

A couple others:

The Legarans from “Sarek” that were going to sit in that fluorescent pool Data and Geordi were preparing.

The Chandrans that Tam Elbrun visited in the past, described as having glacial minds and taking days to say hello.

I meant from each planet. The Rigel system has 12 planets as far as we know but it's clear the aliens we did see appeared very different as you mentioned. I think there may be more different looking humanoids who are classified as Rigelians, the showrunners or creators just have to explore them.

Oh I love that. The Rigel system fascinates me with its many intelligent aliens; there could be still more of very different forms that we have yet to see.

Some quick Googling shows a Reddit page asking this same question from a couple years ago. Some responses there include the Hur’Q, Iconians, Husnock, Tarkalians, Briori, and the Fem Domar.

Live action? Not so much.

For some reason my mind is telling that (in some form) we did...?

Have they really never been done in live action?

Not doubting you, more surprised than anything. I thought we had babes with tails or something as them in Into Darkness? But then, it's a lifetime ago that I watched that movie.

They were Caitians, as were the cat people in Star Trek IV. The 3 boobed cat girl in Star Trek V was called "Kzinretti" or somesuch behind the scenes but never on screen. And Riker mentioned them as a nearby menace in Picard season one.

The reason they were never shown and barely mentioned was because Larry Niven imported them from his Known Space novelverse, which meant Paramount/CBS/whoever don't actually own them. A Kzinti episode was pitched for Enterprise's unmade fifth season (basically a remake of DS9's "The Abandoned" but with an angry kitty and not a Jem'Hadar), and in some 90's and 00's videogames and novels they were swapped out for legally distinct but very similar aliens.
