Spoilers Legacy character announced for SNW

Either recast Pike or transition to Kirk.

Or brought in a third character to carry the show for a season or two (Captain Una?), then bring Pike back in to hand it off to Kirk. Or something. Bringing Kirk in this early, if what we think the production photos mean are what they actually mean, is a lack of imagination on their part.

Or CBS decided they wanted Captain Kirk now, much like Paramount back in 2008.

There was a rumour last year that SNW was looking to add Kirk (and make him bisexual which got Shatner's knickers in a twist as he through a bit of a Twitter fit)...so this may have been part of the plan from the get go....but I really hope it doesn't mean Anson Mount is leaving the show (I know he and his wife just had a baby and maybe he didn't want to be away in Toronto).

According to the Google, Mount had a daughter in December. Maybe he's decided to refocus his priorities?

And while that may be Kirk, it's not the Enterprise he's commanding (you can tell by the wood panelling on the bridge console...the Enterprise doesn't have that).

Hmm... could just be the red translating badly in the photo, or they could've updated the Enterprise bridge between seasons.

Why are people jumping to the conclusion that Mount is leaving?

Speculation is what make the internet go...

Not sure I see another reason for the show to bring in "Captain" Kirk this early in its run. There should be a ton of stories to tell about Pike, Spock, Una and the rest of the cast they've assembled.

Confirmed it's not an Enterprise Delta he's wearing based on this better res image. Also his rank stripes might actually be Lt. Commander?

Those are captain's stripes he is wearing in both the image you linked and the original one from this thread. The breast emblems are different. The one in the original post is the Enterprise arrowhead.

He's wearing the enterprise Delta on that promo pick, where he sits in the captain's chair.

They really don't want to do a Pike show - they want to do another TOS reboot and collect all the legacy characters during the run, aren't they?

They are going to go where the money is at. Nothing more, nothing less. If the bean counters say the money is in Kirk, then we are going to get Kirk. Might be looking to promote the new Abrams film by having Kirk on SNW.

(Look at the console behind Kirk. The Enterprise doesn't have that wood panelling...)[/QUOTE]

We actually don't know what the SNW Enterprise Bridge looks like because Akiva Goldsmith confirmed that they changed the look of the bridge between it's appearance on Discovery and the first episode of SNW.

They want a show to make money. Kirk is a tester, if the reports about Season 2 being Kirk's first appearance are accurate.
