Spoilers The NCC-82893 Thread

The Cardenas-class is a pre-TOS ship
So is the USS Enterprise, it launched 20 years before Kirk took command, and 11 year before Discovery. So the Cardenas Class could have easily launched after the Enterprise

Yes yes, lower registry numbers, but those have rarely made sense. Look at the Constellation ;)

The Cardenas-class is a pre-TOS ship. Lorca's command before Discovery was the Cardenas-class USS Buran. It predates the Constellation-class. I'm fine with the Stargazer NCC-82893 being Sagan-class; it's the pre-Constellation Stargazer I'm curious about.

Don't get me wrong, I love the old-school simplified TOS style of the Radiant-class... I mean, just look at it, it's superb!...

...But as Discovery already introduced a mid-23rd Century four-nacelled ship I'm just curious as to why they didn't make a previous Stargazer one, especially as it would have given them the opportunity to add a new tie between Picard and Discovery.
I was given carte blanche to create a TOS version of the TNG Stargazer. I was aware of Cardenas. I also wanted to design a 2260’s era classic TOS style ship with my own twist because they gave me that freedom for which I am honored. This ship may look similar but it just happens to also be named Stargazer.

That's awesome! The Radiant-class is a great-looking ship :luvlove:

It's probably vac metal with a candy clearcoat, basically aluminum evaporated in a vacuum and drawn to the plastic surface by a static charge.

Otherwise, a copper painted undercoat with an electroplated gold or other metal on top, but it's probably vac metal because that's easier and cheaper.

I've been watching this YT channel a lot lately, where the guy restores old rusted toys and whatnot. He ended up powder coating a chrome finish on a couple parts, albeit metal parts. I was a little surprised how good the "chrome" finish looked.

From Drexler
"Stargazer Approval Model. From here it goes to VFX, where they rebuild it, texture it, trick it out, and light it beautifully."

Drexer implies, and it's even notable looking at the model, they designed the bridge to separate from the ship

This is actually hilarious. Imagine how the characters would come across if they left the entire crew to die.

Also the Stargazer appears a over-engineered as the Vengeance was in Into Darkness, since it's seemingly only going to be in one more episode, at the very end when they fix the timeline and everything goes back to normal. None of this stuff will be used.

These sets, designs, concepts, look so good, it'd be a waste not to keep using after the conclusion of Picard season 3. Not just the ship but the established era.
What Picard inspires in others is just as much part of the ongoing story, so they may continue even without him
A possible Stargazer spin-off, with Captain Rios and the rest of La Sirena's recruits, as the Stargazer's regular crew.;)
Or even a parallel Seven led Fenris Ranger adventure where she and the Stargazer crew can come to work together again.

Providing no never heard of before siblings or relatives of TOS/TNG characters turn up I’d be so onboard for this!

Terry has shown set pictures on twitter of stuff being filmed for Season 3 (including a transporter room). So no, as Vale said, Season 3.
I guess it's wait and see if the double warp core and whatnot actually mean anything in the end.

Or as said before, if it's like the 2 warp cores and 2 computer cores on Voyager, or Defiant's landing gear, which the writers didn't even know about.

That's great, although sometimes these design concepts never factor into the show.
I remember Voyager had a shuttle(similar to STI's Captains yacht) designed to drop out from under the bridge- designed, rendered, they even did a test animation with it, yet they never used it in show.
I hope this visually does come into play, and we actually do see it separate on the show.

Not sure if the intent was to have that shape invoke clamped in nacelles? Some quick images of how the concept may look disengaged?.;)

Unless it leaves those two possible impulse engines behind?

Or keeps the engines and no nacelles?

Or ...?

Considering that the Cardenas class looks more advanced than the Constellation class, I’d say you made the right design choice ;)

No, it really doesn't. It has too many in common features (phaser hard points) and some more primitive (like the bussards)

You’re entitled to your opinion. To me it looks like a ship that would fit right in with the fleet from First Contact. The miniscule features that it has in common with the other DSC season 1 ships pales in comparison to the more advanced rest of the design. They even used it for storyboarding in PIC along with the Nova class. So clearly I’m not the only one who thinks this.

Storyboards are hardly definitive, unless you also believe that the Picard production team legitimately thought a few Nova-class ships was a viable threat to a Romulan war fleet?
