Stargate SG1 show. any fans?

From what I understand the new Stargate show in the works is going to have the Stargate become public knowledge. Which I look forward to seeing explored. I just hope Brad Wright gets the show made. It feels like it is taking forever to get done.

They hinted at it with the 2010 episode but it was largely left alone, and for the politicians to worry about.

You mean the one with the rich guy? I found that episode frustrating because it really seemed like it shouldn't have been successfully covered up.

In retrospect that guy was Elon Musk before Elon Musk.

Y'know what I like about that episode, though? I'm pretty sure it's the first indication we had in the series that Samantha Carter was a pilot. That's the first thing I thought of when she took the rich guy on the F302 ride, because up till then any flying necessary would have been done by O'Neill or Teal'c.

That wasn't "2010"... that one was "COVENANT". The guy from THE NANNY was in it.

"2010" was entirely in the future (except for the very last scene), at least from that episode's view because it was made in the year 2000. That had the stargate program be public, but the Aschen made everyone basically sterile.

Ahh, that doesn’t really count cause they found out after the gu’ald were defeated.

There's also The Road Not Taken in the tenth season, where Carter end up in an alternate universe where revealing the Stargate to the public resulted in the US government becoming aggressively totalitarian. The entire country was under martial law, freedom of the press was nullified, the US even began using their advanced technology to police the rest of the world, with a mention of an F-302 squadron being sent to bomb an Irish village suspected of housing terrorists by the Irish government.

What they could do is when the new show gets started basically say the Stargate has been shut down the last few years when knowledge of it's existence was found out because of public division on what to do with. In the fist episode earth is attacked by aliens from space and a whole city is was wiped out. One of the aliens was left behind. Universal agreement is decided that the Stargate program needs to be reopened but with the same kind of world oversight that Atlantis has so even though they control the gate and the military you still have civilian oversight by many world governments. Maybe the new Stargate Command is set up in Canada.

You had me right up until "Canada.'

Assuming you're referring to the IOA, they've had control over the entire Stargate program since latter day SG-1, the entirety of Atlantis and SGU.

It's not the protests that bother me. It's the government's reaction to them that tells me "Maybe don't give them a matter transporting wormhole device..."

It could be a troubling precedent, but in this case I - like pretty much the entire city they were in - am fine with it.
