Re-establishing the TOS and TOS Movie Era look for some Romulans was one of the best things the creators could have done. Laris is not only one of the best Romulans ever created but the fact she looks and reminds me so much of Joanne Linville always makes me smile and feel good.

Not really sure how I feel about this episode. Some of it feels like trying to get people to forget what happened last season, like Juranti literally murdering someone. She gets off on a temporary insanity defense and jokes about it at a bar now?

That's literally Star Trek plots. Geordi ring a bell? No, I guess not.

That and Q being totally fine with Picard being an android even though he's supposed to be testing humanity again. lol

Being human is more than flesh and blood but spirit.

Yeah, it's close but there's something bothering me about it. I'm definitely getting some uncanny valley feel off of this, and I had minimal issue with Grand Moff Tarkin in Rogue One. I'm glad it was only for that brief second or so.

I guess you could always chalk it up to Q's "false images" always looking goofy or a little off because of the effects of the time.

Only the premiere episode, so a lot of setup. I really enjoyed it for what it was, but gave it an 8/10. If the whole season continues like this I expect I'll love it, but it's hard to judge from this episode which was heavy on exposition. I did love seeing "Captain Rios" and John de Lancie was perfect in the few seconds we got him. I did appreciate the jokes about Picard being an android now, even though despite what many detractors keep ranting about he's effectively exactly the same as he was before minus what killed him.

I have to admit I kinda wish they used the TNG "flash" effect and sound when he changed his appearance.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, it's great work. There's just something I can't quite define that bugs me. I have "suspension of disbeliefed" away far worse.

I wonder if the hair is a wig (or dye) rather than pure CGI. They put a wig on Spiner to play Data in Season 1 after all.

Actually I love that they actually mention that she did face a judicial system. As for her joke about it, many people use inappropriate humor to deal with situations they are uncomfortable with. That's very human, not to mention its stated she's also drunk which increases the people expressing themselves in ways that might not be social normal.

Consider Worf with commits premeditated murder (by US legal standards) in uniform killing a high ranking foreign leader. And he gets a reprimand on his permanent record. That is literally one of the lamest things Trek has ever shown for a legal consequence for what must be an exceedingly serious crime. And while Klingons might be okay with, the Federation and Starfleet would be horrified by that behavior. He would be cashiered out of Starfleet, and should have ben imprisoned, either through a Starfleet court or a Federation court. And Worf didn't face a trial he's literally giving a talking too.

Your second point doesn't make much sense as Q has been *by his own admission and by what we have seen, several different species in his life and I am quite sure he still sees himself as a "Q", through each and everyone of them.

Still, I couldn't even begin to tell ya why. It's a weird gut feeling. What's stranger is that, sometimes, I get these things right.
