Good(ish) News Everyone. Futurama's Coming Back

I guess Disney found some money somewhere.

In their pockets?

Fixed (I can never get it to work on a phone)-

Nice that Disney figured out that voice actors aren't so easily replaceable.

I'm sure someone from Fox is still around from 1998, when the Simpsons voice cast was holding out on pay and the producers literally began auditioning replacement voice actors (and then quickly realized it would be a disaster).

Which Simpsons made a joke about.

Cool, I guess.

I really hope they start the first episode with Bender waking up in the ruins of the Simpsons basement for continuity with the crossover.

Actually that would be a good opening for an obvious joke.
Bender "Wait, you're all still here?"
Homer "Yeah, even after 1000 years we never got canceled."

I suspect The Simpsons producers are using the recasting along racial lines as a cynical way of testing out and slowly phasing in new voice actors. The majority are all senior citizens now. If the audience is already used to new voices, they can just keep on recasting them and run forever, James Bond style.

Disney has been working to phase out on-screen talent for a while now. It's just a matter of time before we get a Star Wars with its "original cast," except the "original cast" will just be computer-generated voices and images. They already started us in that direction with fake Luke and having every bit character get complete 360-degree scans.

I'm up for more episodes, but I have to say … I saw the then series finale and the way it ended and tied things up, I have to ask: What's the point? Where is it going to now? How do you top that ending or at least make something equally as good?

I felt the same way about "The Devil's Hands are Idle Playthings". Let's see what they've got...

Turns out John DiMaggio didn't actually get a pay raise, but conceded on his call for better pay for voice actors on the advice of his agent. This particular nugget from DiMaggio is especially amusing:

“But listen, this was the best thing about that fight,” DiMaggio said, “I had Disney, Hulu, I was holding on to their collective testicles so hard that they couldn’t, y’know, there was nowhere for them to go. But there was also nowhere for me to go, and who wants to hold on to those for that long?”
