Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

Yeah, that's rather disappointing. It's such an obvious error when you look at the model or screencaps from The Battle. I had hoped they would fix it for the XL version.

It's a cost/benefit formula. Cost concerns usually always win. If there's an existing asset, they're likely to use it just to save R&D money. There have been instances where the XL version is markedly different from its smaller variant (the Reliant and E-A/refit come to mind here), but on the whole, yeah, it's the same with possibly a couple of small tweaks.

This one does look a tad-bit better in the relative hull thickness compared to its smaller counterpart but, agreed, it's still not quite there.

Yes, the saucer appears thinker (not near enough) and the outer ring seems a smidge closer to the shape of the Stargazer. So I am assuming not just using stock hull with painted detail changes. And lots of additional painted details from saucer to aft engine area. Don't know how accurate any of it is, but it does look better, so still a miss, but a easier one to swallow.

It is still an order of magnitude better than what they did for the primary hull, bridge module and decal details on the XL E-A. That thing was an abomination.

I kind of like this version of the Stargazer better. It's a bit sleeker. It'd be too much of a deliberate change, but full-length nacelles would be great.
In STO, you can kitbash the Constellation class with other four-nacelled vessels, including the Cheyenne class. Slightly longer nacelles make the Collie indeed look a bit more modern.

Also, for no particular spoilerish reason, STO has a 25th century Stargazer class, led by the USS Stargazer-A: https://memory-beta.fandom.com/wiki/USS_Stargazer_(prototype)

L
éigh Bit-Phalanx posted in the Facebook group. They used plastic strips to achieve an invisible detached-nacelle effect without using Eaglemoss’s plastic clamps. Discovery-A and Voyager-J remain swooshable. I’m intrigued.

Here’s how:
“OK... Spoilers: It was just a thin-but-sturdy clear polypropylene and good double-sided tape. But, the shape, cutting, scoring and folding of the clear poly is where the engineering went mostly to make it as seamless & "invisible" as possible, while keeping the nacelles in just the right place.

Discovery was a lot easier than Voyager for sure, and the visibility of the poly definitely changes depending on what surface / background it is against. But I'm super-pleased with the result, and (dare I blow my own trumpet...) I think it's the best attempt at a DIY solution to the floating nacelles that I've seen yet too.”

Imho, the ships of the Star Trek Online collection are the most detailed starship models Eaglemoss has produced. Even taking errors into account, the ships are what used to be regular-sized but have incredible detailing painted onto their small hulls.

Okay, SPOILERS
On the weekly STO livestream, Thomas Marrone announced the following STO ships appear in PIC: Gagarin class, Reliant class, Sutherland class, Ross class.

A version of the Gagarin has already been released as part of the STO collection. The Sutherland is a version of the Nebula class made from parts of the Andromeda, which was also part of the STO collection.

The Ross is a 2380s era Galaxy with Sovereignesque saucer.

My questions: Assuming Eaglemoss will release models of these, I wonder if they will be just as detailed as the STO ships? At the current “regular” size, that amount of detail would be mind-blowing.

I am now hoping this opens the door to the Enterprise-F
becoming canonized
so that we can get an XL-sized model of it,

I am truly amazed (and happy) that some of the better STO designs are finally starting to see some canonical love. Makes sense, too. STO is a licensed product with ready-made ideas and assets. Why the hell not? This will definitely keep Eaglemoss (and me) busy for a long while!
