The Animals That Aren't Dogs or Cats Thread

So, I ran into the three horseback riders again today, and the girl who let pet her horse before, does seem to be ignoring me on purpose. The other two were friendly like usual, although they did say they taking the horses "for a quick ride" so we just chatted a tiny little as they rode past, but the other girl just started looking at her phone, and never even acknowledged me. After they went by, I remembered that she was like that other times I ran into them, before the first time we ran into each other and she let me pet her horse, and even the last time, after we met the day before, she kept going past me after the other two stopped to talk, and didn't stop and come over by us until I thanked her for letting her pet her horse the day before. So I don't think it's because of anything I did either of the times I talked to her.

Had another interesting bike ride today, I ran into two of the three regular horseback riders, including the girl who ignored me yesterday, and they both stopped and were really friendly and let me pet the horses again. I also stopped and talked to a lady at the other stables for the first time, and she was also pretty friendly. I actually saw her twice, but the first time I went past, my anxiety set in and I panicked and took off, the second time I stopped and talked to her.
Also had a couple sad moments when I went past a dead coyote on the sidewalk going in both directions. At first I was sure if it was dead, because it looked OK, but it never moved when I went past it, and the second time I went by I even clapped real loud over it, and it still never moved. I thought about trying to move it off the sidewalk, but I didn't want to take the chance of transferring any diseases to my dogs back home.

Well, at that point I was like 75% sure it was dead, but I would have felt guilty if I didn't try one last thing just to make sure. It was either that or poke it with my foot, and clapping let me keep my distance enough that I'd have enough time to take off on my bike if it woke up.
Trust me, I stood for quite a while trying to decide what to do, and clapping seemed like the safest option.

Oh, I remembered one last interesting thing about my bike ride. When I was talking to the horseback riders, one of them said that they think the one I pet the first time was "medicine horse", because when he hears babies crying and things like that he always wants to go to them. So that got me wondering if that was why he was so eager to come over to me the first time I met him and his owner. When I met them, I got really nervous like I always do when I meet new people, and I'm wondering if maybe he knew and that was why he wanted to come over to me.

Gentle and I hesitate to say "broken" horses are mostly empathetic. So this would not surprise me.

They are like big-ass dogs in their affection towards we mere humans.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of really affectionate horses on the Instagram pages I follow.
