Since there doesn't seem to be a thread for it specifically, I am creating one for the NCIS franchise as a whole. Please use the spoiler protection for items that need it.

To start: Paramount+ Australia and Network 10, with NCIS: Los Angeles former showrunner Shane Brennan, are developing NCIS: Sydney. They hope it will appear on Paramount+ outside Australia.

I've lost all interest in NCIS once Abby left. NCIS: Los Angeles I do like. Deeks is hilarious, and probably the most normal of the original cast. Nell was great too. In fact, I liked her so much, that my new great nice who is scheduled to come into the world on 3/31 of this year (I think) because my niece has difficulties in the last few weeks of pregnancy so this baby, like her older sister will be delivered by C-section. My new great niece will be named Penelope, I'll be calling her Nell. The best part of NCIS:LA are the stories and mystery around "That scary little woman." Henrietta "Hetty" Lange.

And lets not forget, this is all spun off from JAG I believe.

    NCIS: Sydney...that could work.

What is Australia's equivalent of the NCIS actually called?

Within the Austrlian military? Joint Military Police Unit.

However, I believe the show will be about the USA's NCIS section (Southeast Asia Field Office) that operates down under. Although, I'm sure there will be plenty of joint investigations and butting of heads.

The link seemed to imply that the main cast would all be Australian...

I think it's going to be a similar situation to Farscape, an American lead with the rest of the cast being Australian. Of course, even if the cast is entirely Australian, one of them could easily adopt a fake accent and play an American character.

I suspect the cast of this show will likely consist of one or two American NCIS agents (a Special Agent in Charge and ordinary Agent), an Australian law enforcement liaison, with Australians filling in all the other support roles like Medical Examiner, forensics, and whatever other positions they need to fill.

I hope it's not like that. I doubt Aussie fans would take kindly to a Yank taking over a show which is rightly theirs.

It could be how NCIS:LA was Deeks being the LAPD liaison with NCIS before he became an NCIS Agent. They could have a joint team or a member of the Sydney PD as a liaison or one of their version of NCIS as a liaison. But with a country with gun control laws, I'm guessing there will be a lot of US Navy ship board guns fights, or does Australia still have a gun control problem?

Just how closely do the USN work with the RAN? I know they conduct joint operations and training, but do officers and crewmen from one side ever serve on the other's ships?

Better an American trying to do an Australian accent (yes Meryl Streep - I'm looking at you :p)

Speaking of actors and accents, the guy who played Junior Raynes was in Hawaii-5O was in a recent episode of NCIS Hawaii playing a Kiwi secret service agent.

Thought it would be an American actor putting on a New Zealand accent. Quick wiki visit and it turned out to be the otherway around - NZ actor putting on an America accent :)

    JAG
    The NCIS-verse wouldn't exist without JAG ;)
    Loved that show growing up.
Also had such a crush on Jennifer Coates (Zoe McLellan) :adore:

    NCIS
liked the Gibbs/Fornell relationship and Gibbs rules.
Stopped watching when DiNozzo left, steadily lost interest already prior.
Funnily the only episodes I've seen since (by chance) were the Alaska episodes where Gibbs left a couple of weeks ago.
was and still am annoyed by Ziva/TIVA obnoxious fandom

    NCIS Red
I don't remember much other than it being on a truck and Kim Raver was playing one of the main characters.

    NCIS Los Angeles

only watched about the first 4-5 seasons, then lost interest.
Never warmed up to the characters other than Nate and Nell.

    NCIS New Orleans
Enjoyed it. Even made me visit NOLA once while on vacation from overseas.
I watch everything with Scott Bakula since his Quantum Leap days. Also Zoe McLellan was part of it too funnily.
Especially liked Loretta Wade (CCH Pounder) and Sonja Pery (Shalita Grant)

    NCIS Hawai'i :adore:

I LOVE NCIS Hawai'i. Like the setting/vibe and like the Jane, Jesse and Ernie characters so far.
Hope the series has long run ahead.
Was shocked when the went ahead with
    Jane's mentor is a traitor/spy storyline

    NCIS Sydney
The series apparently has it's roots because of CBS/Paramount whatever needs new Australian-produced content in order to keep their broadcast license down under, because one of their current mainstays is ending.
Could be fun if they have indeed lots of acting talent from around Oceania, whether they play new characters or not ;) also offer a non US perspective for once.
Will definitely check it out when it starts

NCIS is great, but I've lost interest since Tony left. It still has its moments, but it's more of an obligation to continue watching at this point. I actually like the new guy (whatever his name is) Gary Cole is a great actor.

NCIS Los Angeles - I've seen a few episodes, and it's pretty good, but it just doesn't interest me.

NCIS New Orleans - I really want to like this show. I love the city and the visuals are really nice, but Bakula's occasional southern accent gets annoying, and I wish they would have just dropped it after the pilot episode. Yes, I was born and bred in New Orleans, but I sound like I'm from California 87.3% of the time.

NCIS Hawaii - I've seen a few episodes, and it's ok. I'll probably wait until summer and binge it on Paramount +

NCIS Sydney - Sounds great to me, I look forward to seeing what they can do with it.

Like Alex O'Loughlin from the Hawai'i 5-0 remake.

Not in a million years would I have ever guessed he is Australian.

Since they already had a legal show in JAG and a (bunch of) cop shows in the NCIS franchise, I'm surprised CBS hasn't completed the trifecta and done a medical show in the same "universe" set at the Bethesda military hospital.

They crossed over Hawaii 5-0 with NCIS LA once or twice, maybe Steve McGarret could take over the Sydney office?

The problem with this are two-fold:

    1. O'Loughlin suffered a major back injury on 5-0 (which is why he decided to call it quits), so the role would need to be deskbound and not as action-packed and I'm not sure anyone would want to see that.

    2. They would need to get the rights to the character of Steve McGarrett. Go to Wikipedia and read what it took to bring John Munch to SVU. Possibly more trouble than it is worth.

There's a rumor circulating the internet that they're going to bring DiNozzo back to be the lead of the Sydney series. Michael Weatherly has been fueling these rumors with a lot of posts related to NCIS on his various social media accounts lately.

I'm not really sure if they're going to want to work with him again if he behavior during his tenure on NCIS was as bad it was reportedly was during Bull.
My mom and I are both big fans of the franchise going all the way back to the original's first season.
Her favorite is the original, but I actually prefer LA. I just like the LA cast and characters more.
The only character who's left the original that I really miss is Gibbs. I always like Tony, but he never really felt like he really made the show the way that Gibbs. I know this is probably blasphemy for an NCIS fan to say, but I've actually started to like Kacie better than Abby. At times Abby just felt a little too over the top for such a grounded show, and Kacie just feels like a better fit to me.
I always like NCIS: New Orleans, but it just never really reached the heights of the original or LA for me.
So far Hawaii has been off to a good start.
There's actually getting to be a pretty big interconnected universe going now.
First we have JAG, which spun off NCIS, which lead to first LA, then NoLA, and now Hawaii. LA did at least one or two crossovers with Hawaii 5-0, which also crossed over with the MacGuyver reboot and shares character with the Magnum PI reboot.
I just looked up JAG on Wikipedia and it also crossed over with another show I've never heard of called First Monday.
