Flashback would have been helped if the writers of the episode had actually paid attention to Star Trek 6 (assuming they bothered to watch the entire film). It didn't help that you didn't even see Sulu and the Excelsior for the first 25 or so minutes of the episode.I thought both Trials and Flashback were fun enough episodes. Flashback could have been more, and was rather confusing at times with continuity but it's a brain bug so I give it a pass.
But, even if those were not anniversary things they would still be fun. I think people put too much weight on anniversaries. Beyond is a fine movie, appropriately reflective at times, and fun adventure for the rest.
Big surprise.Hey; an extra six months to pretend this is happening!

We're probably gonna end up with a reverse TMP. It started life as the pilot double episode of the cancelled Star Trek II TV series. Now it'll probably be a boosted up episode of one of the many current series'.Feels like we're back in the 1970s with all the false starts and stops with a Star Trek feature.
So is this actually happening this time? Or is this just going to end up like all the other attempts?
Variety said:Abrams is producing the new, as-yet-untitled film through Bad Robot, with Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”) directing from a screenplay by Josh Friedman (“Avatar 2”) and Cameron Squires (“WandaVision”) based on a earlier draft by Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Captain Marvel”).
While it’s not anything resembling a guarantee that it’s actually going to move forward this time, according to the report linked above, for what it’s worth, there are writers/a director attached.
I look forward to when there are screencaps and long-time cynics say, "No way! They're fake! They were staged! It's a trick!"
Just kidding. But it looks like they've solved whatever was stopping them before. How close they're keeping everything to the vest this time looks like a good sign. And the fact that the initial script for this version has gone to the revision stage instead of being rejected. And they've signed all the surviving cast back.
This is going forward.
They haven't signed the surviving cast back. They haven't even opened negotiations with them. They just said they're planning to open negotiations with them.
It sounds a bit like fluff talk to me, they're probably deep into negotiations if they aren't close to closing a deal already. This was a very public, official announcement for the fourth movie. And if, for some reason, they can't get the cast to return then it's fine because they had only just "planned to open negotiations".
It was an investors call. They are not outright lying to investors to downplay how far they are in negotiations.
