Or maybe the scenes in Japan will be about Japanese characters and shot with local talent speaking subtitled Japanese, rather than focusing on Americans or other outsiders visiting Japan. I think the success of Shang-Chi has shown that today's audiences can handle a few subtitles.

So this website just went up: https://sjhu.jp/. There's no official English text, but here's what I got after translating it:

We are pleased to announce the launch of "Shin Japan Heroes Universe", a miraculous project in collaboration with the four films "Shin Godzilla", "Shin Evangelion the Movie", "Shin Ultraman" and "Shin Kamen Rider". This project was launched by Toho, Color, Tsuburaya Productions and Toei. The dream collaboration of four of Japan's leading "heroes" has been realized, transcending the boundaries of the companies, because of the connection with the work bearing the name "Shin" in which the rare creator Hideaki Anno participates.

As a start-up, the main visual and emblem of the project have been completed. The visuals were created by Masahiro Maeda and the emblem by Yutaka Debuchi, two people who have a deep connection with each series, and who will add colour to the start of this big project.
We are planning a wide range of events, merchandising and other activities for the future. We will keep you informed on this website.
Stay tuned for Shin Jidai in 2022!

The phrasing in the first paragraph makes it sound like an actual crossover between all four franchises, but the last paragraph leads me to suspect it's most likely going to be something like the Godzilla vs. Evangelion theme park ride rather than a movie.
 
Well, the title makes sense, since about the only thing Kamen Rider could manage is to kick the others in the shin.
 
Takashi Yamazaki to Direct New Toho Kaiju Film - The Tokusatsu Network

So, there's a casting call for extras in this new movie with the title given being "Monstrous Monster Movie", which is set in the years immediately after World War II. Yamazaki has put Godzilla into his 2007 drama "Always Sunset on Third Street 2", which got a lot of attention at the time, and also directed five minutes of footage for a Godzilla-themed ride in a Japanese amusement park just last year. Not surprising, there's already speculation that this is secretly a new Godzilla film. While I think it's possible, it's also just speculation, and honestly, I'm looking forward to any new kaiju film, especially a Toho one.
 
Yeah, Godzilla or not, any Kaiju movie from Toho definitely gets my attention.

Yeah, it is interesting that they never actually say the word movie, but it does sound like it will be pretty big whatever it is.

With a heavy heart do I have to report that the legendary Akira Takarada passed away on March 14 at the age of 87. He appeared in six Godzilla movies, including playing the male lead Ogata in the original 1954 film, and had filmed an unused cameo scene for the 2014 Legendary Godzilla. He also appeared in other Kaiju and Tokusatsu films like "Half Human", "The Three Treasures", "King Kong Escapes" and "Latitude Zero".

I'd be happier to hear that if Godzilla vs. Kong hadn't been so terrible. Hopefully this one will be closer in quality to the first three (although Kong: Skull Island is significantly better than the rest).

Personally, I like GVK, but I'm hoping they'll continue the trend of having a different director for each movie. Each entry in the franchise has a distinct style and I think that's something that sets the Monsterverse apart from a lot of other movie franchises.
 
Amazing turnaround when they were so worried about GVK that they chopped it to bits to try and make it into a standalone film. (You wouldn't even know that Shun Oguri was playing Ken Watanabe's character's son if you didn't read the novelisation.) Maybe this will persuade them to release the original version?
 
Cool, I liked Godzilla vs Kong, and I've been hoping it wouldn't be the end of the franchise.
 
As someone who loves Godzilla vs Kong and considers it the only good Monsterverse film (Godzilla 2014 hid too much of the action and had a really boring human plot, Kong: SI had terrible characters that ruined the movie and KOTM had cool fights but really lame humans and too much of a focus on a random teen), hopefully if another movie gets made they build off of the kind of movie GvK was. Better/more action, humans who aren't annoying, and if they must still have a kid/teen in the film they should be barely a side character at most instead of the focus.

I also hope we get more with Godzilla or Godzilla related kaiju specifically, because I find Kong outside of the context of GvK to be boring (he's just a big ape, and acts like any random Gorilla in a movie, just really big)
 
I didn't really like GVK. They went way too far in the other direction.

Monarch created a virtual reality dome
The hollow earth.
The anti gravity vehicles.
MechaGodzilla
Mind melding with Ghidora's skull
Underground shuttle network

I get that some of these elements were in Godzilla lore but it just seemed too quick for me. Maybe if they had a previous movie where they were still working on the concept that would have been fine.

I also though the inclusion of Millie Bobby Brown and her side story was unnecessary

I wouldn't say that. Since we have actual/physical Gorilla's to base the performance on the movies gets to inject alot of subtle behavior into Kong.

Kong can do sign language. Godzilla can't because we can't use sign language with lizards.

Given that Godzilla has historically been played by a human in a rubber suit, there's no reason he couldn't be made more expressive or communicative if it were so desired. But it's not in character for Godzilla to connect on a human level in the way it is for Kong. It would be boring if both kaiju had the same personality.

After all, "Gojira" is a portmanteau of the Japanese words for gorilla and whale. His original design was a blend of reptilian and primate elements, and a little of that anthropomorphism still remains in the eyes and the body structure.
