Good(ish) News Everyone. Futurama's Coming Back

Everyone else is great too, but Bender is the biggest character on the show, mostly because of DiMaggio's performance. It'd be like trying to do The Simpsons without Dan Castellaneta as Homer.
International audiences are already used to hearing popular characters with different voices. I've never seen a Futurama episode in English. In the long run, it really doesn't matter who voices the character.

Ah, then you haven't heard the distinctive character acting that DiMaggio brings to the table. While I don't doubt that I could get used to a different voice, I'd miss its charms.

There's a bitter irony at the 3 minute 50 second mark given the recent announcement. Also claiming nobody else can do it because Billy West and Maurice LaMarche can't is flawed logic. Can DiMaggio do Frye, Farnsworth or Kiff? I'm betting he can't. Different larynx and palate structures.

John DiMaggio is pretty enthusiastically retweeting things saying that it won't be Futurama without him, so pretty clear he is trying to bump up the offer.

If they're offering too little or he's expecting too much, what do I know, but man is it lame to watch this playing out in public.

My original message came across harsher than I intended. I'd still check out this revival without DiMaggio, but I feel like a big part of what made Futurama what it was would be missing. But who knows, maybe his replacement will do well, too.

I'm hyped.

Let the decline in quality to modern Simpsons level continue!

To be honest, I'll watch it but I'm happy with today's alternatives like Lower Decks.

It'll probably be better than Disenchantment anyway - I gave up on that after the first two seasons although notionally it's set in the same universe.

If they were offering him the same amount as the rest of the cast, then it seems a bit egotistical on his part to try to demand more. Yeah, Bender is great, but I'd say he's on equal footing with at least Fry and Leela in terms of how important he is to the show. And they've already said they're open to recasting his parts.

I mean, if they do prime universe Bender like (gold) alternate universe Bender, you might be able to tell the difference.

As long as they still have an episode like The Late Phillip J Fry then it can work.
Exactly. Sure there were some clunkers in the Comedy Central era, but there were some magnificent gems like "The Late Philip J. Fry" and "Meanwhile." I can't wait for more!

It felt like, once the show was on CC, they were almost always using the entire cast in mostly every episode.

The best episodes are generally ones with the "big 3", plus some appearances from the others.

I don't know if I am interested in this if they don't get DiMaggio. Bender is to important of a character to just replace. If he doesn't sound right it will destroy the entire thing.

Is he holding out due to not being impressed by any scripts or ideas for a revived show so far, and/or something else?

The FOX era was starting to go downhill. Then came the 4 feature-length specials, of which most were "meh". Comedy Central's version was a step up, though a few episodes were needed before they found their mojo again. Once they found it, it was pretty much the same again. Then it ended again. And it seemed it ended on a good note. And after 300 years of Simpsons and Family Guy where they stopped being generally-good after season 12 or 2 respectively (though entertainment is invariably subjective so YMMV)...

The voice cast is iconic, so swapping out any number of them would be a huge challenge. To swap out actors while keeping it from becoming total cringe... But he's a robot, so the Professor just changed a potentiometer and now the voice is a tad off. Any actor who can do the same sarcastic style would be passable. Then hope the replacement actor has the same chemistry with the rest of the cast.

Do all of Hulu's new shows get made available on the lower-end Library tiers, or is one having to get the +Live TV for the new shows? I think I asked that once before but forgot about the post in question... there's probably a future home video release but too many people complain about their favorite shows no longer being available despite subscribing to the service.
