Stargate SG1 show. any fans?

You know what I really want to see? The alternate universe from Stargate Continuum where the SGC would be run by the Navy, just to see how the squids would do it differently.

Too bad the Earth got blown up by every Hatak in the galaxy... :shifty:

You can still have them because earth projectile weapons like machine guns more often than not showed to be more effective than G'ould Staff Weapons and other energy based weapons. Zat guns only advantage was being able to shoot without killing if that was important to the mission or because they didn't feel deadly force was needed. C4 also was used a lot.

But now they have FTL ships and Asgard transporters. So there’s less need to, say, defend the gate by setting up claymores and using Earth tech.

It is kind of amusing to think that Earth is probably a territory of Apophis in 99.999% of universes.

A series set in one of the universes where the bad guys wiped out most of Earth then made the survivors their subjects would be interesting.

I don't know. They do have FTL ships but not many of them. Their is more worlds with Stargates than they have ships to protect them. Plus you got to find enough people to operate those ships. Even the G'ould who started off with tons of ships still used the Stargates to attack planets lots of the time. It seems like the ships were often the last resort even.

Agreed. It's a trade off. The Stargates will always be able to move people and materials faster than even the fastest ships, just not as much at one time. If you want to mount a surprise invasion rapidly, you attack through a 'gate. If you want use overwhelming force and you're patient, you send a fleet.

As of SGU Earth only had a total of seven ships, two of which were already destroyed. I remember the post-finale Atlantis novels actually tried to work in the recession of 2008 as an explanation for why no further ships could be constructed for the foreseeable future.

That makes sense. Those ships cost money. Lots of money to be made. How they are able to hid that money from tax payers is unknown. Materials as well though at least in that regard you can possible get the needed metal and whatnot from off world.

Speaking of which I think one of things people will be pissed off about when they go public with the Stargate program isn't just the dangers that were hidden from people in terms of aliens but also you have tons of resources out their that could have been brought into to help the planet. Food and medicine. In theory you could mine for materials off world that doesn't have any human population nearby that can be effected by any waste.

As long as you don't screw other humans off world which was a concern from that planet where Indians were living and they didn't want Earth humans to mine their planet.

In later seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis, there was the occasional mention that they were gradually laundering technological advancements gained through the Stargate Program into the larger world. Probably the biggest example (and most relevant to us from today's perspective) was the cure to the Ori plague.

...I can only imagine how much crazier the US would be if it was revealed or even rumored that the vaccine was alien tech.

Now i know why I missed out and not watch Stargate SG1.

the stupid addition of the Asgards and other stupid nonsense.

Plus i was skimming through the rest of Seasons 2 to 4 on Netflix. Most of the episodes are just filler episodes where they go to a new planet and try to mingle with the locals or still trying to track down Jackson's primitive tribe wifey pooh

well, I didnt like it where the show wandered off with the whole Asgard nonsense.

the show was supposed to be about Apophis and Daniel trying to get his wife back and the show trying to get us to like General Hammond and Carter the science officer gal. But no they had to have like 10 seasons of junk

Cut the trolling bullshit.

Stargate SG-1 was about Earth's Stargate and Stargate Command, much as Star Trek is about the crew of the Starship Enterprise. Saying it was only about Daniel's wife and Samantha Carter is like saying TNG is only about Data trying to be human and Wesley Crusher.

yeah well, the show really didnt need to be 10 seasons long of filler crap.

Filler crap of O Neil or anyone that went through stupid groundhog time loops or Daniel getting paranoid from a parralel universe invasion etc.

First season was going great with Daniel's wife getting abducted and Skaara having something to do besides the old Stargate movie.

I never did like the stupid addition of the Asgards. Period.

also O Neil growing old or losing his memories, i got tired of that crap also.

The show technically was about Daniel's wife they were trying to get back and then Apophis being the main big bad which I did like

I feel like there's two ways to look at SG-1: either Window of Opportunity is a filler episode just to fill time before they can get back to the proper story episodes, or the ongoing story is there to add some variety in between amazing stand alone episodes like Window of Opportunity.

People who look at the series the second way are probably going to enjoy it a lot more.

It was not filler. They were new stories, which is something a long running series is supposed to tell.

You're bitching about one episode out of the entire series run...and you apparently fucking watched it, even though it took place long after the events you claim you like!
or Daniel getting paranoid from a parralel universe invasion etc.

Which helped the SGC prevent a similar invasion in the "prime" universe. Again, new story.

First season was going great with Daniel's wife getting abducted and Skaara having something to do besides the old Stargate movie.

Skaara appeared in multiple episodes across the entire run. Just because you didn't watch it doesn't mean he had nothing to do.

So you would have preferred it if Eatth had no allies powerful enough to confront its worst enemy? Or are you pissed that the show depicted them as little grays? Would you have preferred the Furlings so SG1 could have its own Ewoks?
also O Neil growing old or losing his memories, i got tired of that crap also.

You just complained that Skaara hadn't grown past the movie, but your solution would be to make sure none of the other characters did either. Brilliant.

The show technically was about Daniel's wife they were trying to get back and then Apophis being the main big bad which I did like

And both storylines were resolved by season three. The show's initial Showtime run came with a five season guarantee. What were the producers supposed to do for seasons four and five? Lots of flashback episodes?
