General Trek Questions and Observations

He's a great actor. That one episode of Babylon 5 and his role in Deadwood show his range wonderfully.

So I'm three quarters of the way through Season 2 of Discovery, and the Red Angel is... a cliche. :\ I hoped it would be something more interesting. Oh well. Not the first time ST has disappointed me.

They did something really clever and Star Trek related in today's NYT crossword puzzle.

Spoiler marked in case anyone does it.
There's a clue "The better of two scifi film franchises".
And STARTREK and STARWARS both work with the matching down clues.

"It's a ____": WRAP/TRAP
"Body part that precedes 'Band'": WAIST/WRIST
"Ones involved in a transaction": PAYERS/PAYEES
"Let out, in a way": LEASED/LEAKED

So the answer solved the puzzle no matter which you said was better.

I did not actually finish the puzzle myself, I got about half of it then gave up and looked at the answer. But that might be the most clever crossword puzzle answer I ever saw.

I think this is probably a commonly discussed question, but I was thinking about the kind of HD upgrade VOY/DS9 so sorely need, even though it's nowhere near even getting started.

The problem is they were done on video tape, not film. It will take several advances in computers to get to the point that an HD upgrade can be done. We will get there.

I think that's both a bit pessimistic and optimistic. We can do a HD upscale from the video tape with the computers we have right now, but I don't think the process is going to come close to matching actual HD footage even as technology increases. Which is why they should just scan their actual HD film already!

Who pays for Discovery and Picard? They've had a lot of practice selling Star Trek to fans, I'm sure they'll find a way to make a profit off it. Maybe not immediately, but old Trek will still get an audience for years to come, that's why they're doing a new HD version of The Motion Picture right now.

Plus with Seven of Nine in Picard and Janeway in Prodigy it's never been a better time to give people HD Voyager.
