Playmates Toys

12.99 is a great price for the figures. I bet GameStop still runs with the 15.99 price if they carry them.

I thought it was Phat ;)

My Playmates TOS Enterprise of the 90’s, which I think I got before the Art Asylum…had a smooth saucer if I remember correctly. The aft end caps on the nacelles didn’t glow. Here it looks like there are better lights.

The playmate TNG phaser I have is distorted, small and has a nasty belt clip. "The Cage" Laser is a nice piece. It is not impossible to get for reasonable funds.

I'm not a general fan of the Playmate props. Better than no props, but they tend to be small and with toy features. I've got props from solid resin to the Art Asylum, to the Playmates. The AA stuff is my favorite.

They were designed as mass market toys, not high-end prop replicas.

But the TOS phaser was one of their weaker toys, and the first one that Art Asylum looked to improve, so it's a bit odd that Playmates decided to go back to that one first.

Calling Playmates offerings "props" is a bit of a misnomer. They were toys, aimed at children of the 90s, like me, for imaginative play. They all had clips for belts, and odd electronic noises.

Honestly, I appreciate them more than full prop replicas. It was a sign of fun.

I'm actually surprised the TOS Enterprise is $40. I seemed to remember the Playmates ships being $40 or so when they were new, back in the '90s. I guess it being a reissue helps, but I would've expected the price to go up 25 years later just because of inflation.

I wonder if the new Playmates action figures will include or exclude the Kelvin characters.

I assume offerings will be limited at first, given the questionable/disastrous decisions made in 2009 line that killed their relaunch. I suspect we may get something....eventually. (Here's hoping for a Kelvin or Narada in scale with the Nu-Enterprise like they originally planned)

If they still have the molds it would make a big difference.

It would be nice if the Kelvin Universe got some love.

Right now they seem to be touching on the classics and very recognizable icons of Trek.

They're usually called role-play toys.

Yeah, Playmates confirmed the retail prices are:

Figures - $12.99
Phaser - $24.99

"The new figures will be 5 inches. They will be the most realistic yet, while still keeping them in the scale that fans are familiar with. We are sure these figures will fit in perfectly with all of our product from the 90s."
Just the thing we were all wondering. Mike Indeglio raises the point that this sounds a little vague as far as sizing, but to me, "the scale that fans are familiar with" sounds like they will be a good match.

IIRC, AA/DST even wanted to make a TNG S1 type 2 phaser (the dustbuster). I was looking forward to that...

Does someone from Germany know, when the first wave of new figures will arrive or when you can preorder at a germany based online shop?

I'd just constantly check Amazon. It's what I always do when there are new action figures; they do tend to end up there at some point. (I've basically given up trying to find new Trek merch anywhere else here in Germany.)

Hi! Cool. Thank you for this Information. I will keep an eye on Amazon. But, I also think and hope, that actionfiguren24.de might get a bunch of the new figures. Yet, I'm not sure.

Thank you, MrPicard. :)
