Playmates Toys

Prodigy will probably have a whole separate launch because it is aimed at kids, while these are more adult-nostalgia based.

The whole toy market is very different than it was 30 years ago. There's a much large adult collector market now. That said, these figures are a weird in-between. Kids aren't going to buy a lot of them but they're not highly detailed 6" figures like Star Wars Black Series or Marvel Legends. I hope these sell well enough to keep going for a few years, but I'm not holding my breath. I'm happy to get what I can while they last, though.

$15.99 per figure is much steeper than I’m comfortable with.

Meaning I won’t be buying all of them. Maybe not any of them, depending on what future waves look like.

I realize, having read comments here, that this price may be reasonable by today’s standards. They aren’t reasonable by mine.

I use profanity all the time. I also know the prices of figures, including ones going for 15 that are not scalper prices but from websites like Game Stop or Entertainment Earth, and occasionally Walmart.

I know the business just fine.

There are no TVC figures on GameStop being sold above retail price. The only ones above the retail $12.99/$13.99 on Entertainment Earth are Entertainment Earth exclusives. The only ones going above the $12.99/$13.99 retail price on Walmart are from third party sellers (i.e. scalpers).

Your arguments are rooted in ignorance or intellectual dishonesty. There is no alternative.

Um, Game Stop has exclusives that are priced at 15 dollars. So, I'm not sure what's with the accusations of dishonesty. Same with Entertainment Earth exclusives. They are priced above 13.99. So, no, it's not just scalpers as stated.

Playmates pricing is consistent with what I would expect with the industry and coming in as a new line in the market.

ETA: Out of curiosity I looked up "5 Inch action figures" on Entertainment Earth. There is a new line of Buffy the Vampire Slayer figures due to come in next month which are the same size and look similar to the Star Trek figures, roughly. Price point? 15.99.

New introductions in to the market seem to track along like that.

I will be curious how they will roll this out. Online availability is in the summer, and in store in the fall, according to the official press release.

I gave you the GameStop link. Nothing there is being sold above $13.99, even their exclusives. Not that it would matter if they were. Literally everything you’re citing proves my point and disproves yours.

Standard Star Wars TVC figures retail at $12.99/$13.99, not $18 as you previously claimed. Your profane reply to the contrary to this accurate and completely factual statement should be rescinded. But it won’t be. You aren’t making a rational argument at this point, but an emotional one. I’m sorry that I bruised your ego by disagreeing with you on the internet. I know, for some, that can be a traumatic experience.

Well, that went from being informative to not making much sense. Yes, Game Stop sells their exclusives at 14.99. The $18 I saw at Walmart.

ETA: The figures listed for $18 that I remember are Walmart's exlcusive "Carbonized" line, which were listed at MSRP 18.99, and current up for 17.99 on Walmart.com, sold by Walmart and not 3rd party.

Game Stop has their Vintage Collection "Gaming Greats" which sell at regular price 14.99 and only recently have gone up for sale.

I stand by my statement that anything above "12.93" is a "scalper's price" is not accurate when it comes to TVC exclusives.

Also, I added this right before your reply.

Marvel’s 3.75in retro figures retail for $9.99. Using scalper/eBay prices as a barometer is illogical.
I'm using the prices that I see them at when I go to mainstream brick and mortar stores in real life, not scalper/eBay prices.

Entertainment Earth and Game Stop are generally a few bucks more expensive than other places no?

it’s very possible that IF these show up at Target, WalMart and Walgreens they will be a few bucks cheaper. Like the old price disparity between TRU/Target/WalMart and the old mall toy stores like KB Toys that I referenced before. Even now a Funko POP is typically 9.99 at Target but 11.99 at Game Stop.

and in reality it’s just as simple as if you don’t like the price you don’t have to buy them.

It would be so awesome if we could get a toy line that goes as extensive as Star Wars has, where like every character and their sister gets an action figure.

Anyone have a wish list of figures they hope get made, other than the standard bridge crews?
I’m really excited about these, I hope the line goes for a long time. I’m looking forward to the complete “Enterprise” (nx-01) crew the most as they never got to them before. I’d like to see Troi in her S1 and “Encounter at Farpoint” outfits. The DS9 crew in the first contact uniforms… better versions of characters like Ro, Pulaski, Wesley (rainbow shirt!), etc. And of course all the DS9 recurring characters we didn’t get before. I don’t really like Discovery all that much but I’ll pick up the main crew anyway. I hope they do Lorca in a starfleet uniform.

Unfortunately that site doesn't allow reserving with PayPal so I cannot reserve now. I have to take my chances it may sell out, or pay more elsewhere, because I am not giving my info to yet another website.

$50 for the Enterprise does seem pricey for something that's not being marketed as a high-end collectible. I would have expected something in the range of 30-40 dollars.

That would be better, but $50 is below my, "nope, I am not paying that much" limit. I often pay $50 or more for models I have to put together so $50 for an out of the box turnkey is a no brainer for me.
I am waiting for this... https://www.autoworldstore.com/coll...issom-1-350-scale-model-kit-due-february-2022

Yes, I am curious too if the pricing will be different when they hit retailers vs. Entertainment Earth.

It wouldn't surprise me if the price was a little bit lower.

Yeah, Playmates confirmed the retail prices are:

Figures - $12.99
Phaser - $24.99
Enterprise - $39.99
