Spoilers General Prodigy plot-arc speculation thread...

I'm thinking the Diviner's grudge again the Federation is due to them declining to help his people due to a prime directive issue. Thus now he and Gwen are the only ones left, and he blames the Feds.

That sounds very plausible.

‪‪‪‪I look forward to finding out exactly when, why and how he and Drednok’s history with the Protostar began, and if it was a reaction to, or a precursor whatever caused The Diviner’s contempt for the Federation.

I just saw a response on Twitter from Aaron Waltke about Murf that makes me think ‪‪I might have his species figured out.

Someone asked what the truly omnivorous Murf preferred to eat, and his answer was “love.”

Could Murf be a Drella, the species that the Enterprise computer mentioned to Spock when he was researching Redjac in Wolf in the Fold?

They’re described as eating/being nourished by love, and in the context of Spock’s question, it’s implied the Drella have an unconventional form, like Redjac.

Knowing that Murf’s species was previously mentioned on screen on a show, but never seen, and with Waltke’s answer that Murf prefers to dine on love, it seems to fit the bill!

Intriguing. If Murf needs love to sustain, it must have been a new arrival to Tars Lemora or a little love goes a long way, because I'd imagine before the kids came together, there was very little affection being tossed around it.

The only information about the Drella is this quote:

The Enterprise Computer said:
The Drella of Alpha Carinae Five derives nourishment from the emotion of love.

That only says they derive nourishment from love, not that they require it. It’s a subtle but important distinction. As you say, love was seemingly in short supply on Tars Lamora, but if it was only his species’ preferred food source, and not something it needed to survive, then it would fit perfectly.

‪‪I could be wrong, but so far it seems like the best bet to me.

Rok seemed acquianted with Murf before bringing it on the Protostar.
I'd imagine she bonded with Murf long before the Protostar was found and showed it affection (which in itself could have been enough to sustain it on Tars Lamora for extended period of time... if in fact, Murf is Drella).

The ship is from the 24th century of the Kelvin timeline, and somehow transmitted to the Prime timeline (possibly from a few years ahead in th Kelvin timeline to an earlier point in the Prime timeline.)

I base this on all the visual questions such as the look of the Transporter room, the Transporter effect, and the red colored ship Phasers plus the different style of ship's uniform.)

None of which are necessarily an indication the ship is from the Kelvin timeline.
The Prime timeline changed transporter effects with every series. And those Kelvin effects and designs could have already been developed LONG ago by SF in the Prime timeline (just never got out of developmental phase or implemented on a large scale due to different circumstances/events).

Phasers have been increasingly intensified and reddish even in some 24th century movies like First Contact.
In the Prime timeline, Phasers were also red in the 23rd century movies and fired in bolts... and the colors changed from the TOS series to the movies too... so, that's not an indication.

The transporter room design, its effect and the uniforms also aren't necessarily an indication the ship is originally from the Kelvin timeline.
The uniforms are of a newer style, specifically for the Protostar.
And SF has different uniforms across different series.

There are parallels to the two timelines, so its likely they would have 'aligned' in various things at one point or another.

Also, its possible that the transporter effect could have already been in existence in the Prime timeline along with similar Warp nacelle designs and transporter room... but different events created different priorities... so in the Kelvin timeline, different designs and effects may have been brought in earlier rather than later.
In the Prime timeline, those designs would have already existed and were probably just updated for the 24th century as its possible some unused elements from the prime timeline 23rd century may have been deemed usable in Protostar's development.

After all, Tom Paris found solutions to 24th century issues in 20th century technology.
It wouldn't be a stretch to think that SF may have used a similar analogy... only went back 100 years earlier for inspiration.

Also, why would the Kobayashi Maru simulation populate Prime timeline Spock in the holodeck (from TOS) and use exactly the same lines as seen in TOS?
The Kelvin Timeline had a Spock whose development went into a different direction.
Also, the holo Ent-D bridge in the simulation was identical to the Prime Timeline one.
How would the Kelvin timeline have knowledge of it? Spock prime likely didn't relay ALL the minuscule details of the Prime timeline to his younger crewmates seeing as he wanted events to progress in a similar enough capacity.

Except the million other things that put it from the timeline. Like Janeway's lesson on the Federation using all Prime Timeline ships. The Holodeck having Prime Timeline characters and programs.

Every show has it's own take on certain FX.

The writer, Aaron Waltke, wanted to feature the franchise's different eras (He tried to get Worf, but Michael Dorn wasn't available -- so they brought in Dr. Crusher instead).

It was a creative decision -- the writer wanted to feature Spocks from all eras (TOS through ST: 2009).

He read 80 scripts and watched about 90 episodes to find the right clips.

Oh I understand that... but not what I was getting at.
Specifically, if the Protostar was from the Kelvin timeline, how would it have exact information on the Prime Timeline events and ship designs?
Sure, spock may have divulged 'some' information, but as we have seen even he was wary about divulging various information to the Kelvin timeline counterparts.

And I also doubt that the Prime Timeline Starfleet would have been using the Protostar if the ship wasn't designed and built by them (but rather an alternate timeline Starfleet).

They certainly wouldn't have deployed it into active service. Instead they would have likely tried returning it to the Kelvin Timeline (after studying it of course).

I’m fairly certain the Protostar is just part of a fleet of experimental ships built after Voyager returned from the Delta Quadrant with all of those crazy FTL tech designs it found along the way.

We’ve barely seen any of 2385 in PIC — a total of maybe a few minutes of flashback and most of it was just tight closeups in courtyards and interiors on the Utopia Planitia shipyards. If they were making ships as experimental as the USS Prometheus 10 years earlier, Starfleet almost certainly has started pushing the boundaries much further since then.

Kids shows should be granted some latitude in utilizing cliches. It’s not a cliche to a nine year old.

Kids are the primary target audiance, but the show is supposed to appeal to elder fans/ viewers as well (generally I think it does well so far), so it's just criticism from one of the latter group.
Besides, kids or new fans may get annoyed faster by the villains with similar motives if they eventually decide to watch ST '09, TWOK, or whatever. Would be kinda reverse.

My point exactly.
I was tryin to articulate an argument that the ship being originally from the Kelvin timeline is likely false.

Btw, did anyone come to think of the possibility that Tom Paris may have been involved in Protostar's design?
He liked the prospect of testing experimental craft... plus he was responsible for the main design of the Delta Flyer (and he flew Transwarp - infinite velocity- too).
He and Chakotay were also the first ones who stepped on the USS Dauntless (and the Protostar has a distinctly similar main deflector dish design, but inverted outwards rather than inwards like on the Dauntless).

Given how well this show connects to Voyager and the fact Chakotay is the captain... I certainly wouldn't be surprised if all of VOY former crew worked on the Protostar in one way or another. 7 of 9 might have also helped along with Torres.

Absolutely. Tom Paris seemed like he was on the forefront of wanting to redesign Starfleet aesthetics, which I’m sure he’d have the chance after returning to Earth as a hero. Tuvok did not approve.

Tuvok probably designed the shields for the Protostar much like he did the Borg inspired shields for the Flyer.
