Very good episode with a nice twist of the villain actually being Bizarro and not Doomsday after all. Similar to the misdirect in season 1 with the “Captain Luther” stuff. Also happy that the Jordan and Sarah plot seems to have been wrapped up and not stretched out over the entire season.

I'm curious if Bizarro's dialogue is intelligible if you reverse it.

I mean, it was Clark's idea for how Jordan could make things up to her, so...

Yeah, Clark's going to approve of that. He's not a stingy or negative kind of guy where his kids are concerned.

I'm more interested in his inevitable confrontation with Jonathan over X-K abuse.

Superboy was a hit-and-miss series, but it had some good episodes. I certainly enjoyed it more than Smallville.

Okay, that's a cute twist, making us think it's Doomsday and then doing Bizarro. Still, I can't say I care for how ineffectual Superman has been this season. I don't like seeing him fail over and over. Not for the dumb macho reasons of people who get offended that Supergirl can outfight him, but the idea of Superman as a protector and rescuer is important to me, so I don't like seeing him unable to help people.

Things with Sarah aren't going as I expected. I thought they were going to split her up with Jordan and have her start dating Natalie.

It's interesting that the damage to the Steel suit was largely in the chest area. I wonder if maybe John and Natalie will rebuild it with the Superman crest, maybe to counter Anderson's bunch appropriating it.

Sam's line about Lucy not being as strong as Lois, and the implication that she's still under the cult leader's sway, suggests that, even though it's the same actress, this version of Lucy is going to be a radically different character from the Earth-38 Lucy of Supergirl's first season.

As mentioned above, the 1988 Superboy series did an excellent, very faithful version of Bizarro played by Barry Meyers, featured in three 2-parters and making a smaller appearance in a late episode. The evil Superman in Superman III was loosely inspired by Bizarro, and Smallville and Supergirl did their own one-shot versions.

You're confusing two different stories. The 1958 Superboy issue that introduced Bizarro had him sacrifice himself to restore the sight of a blind girl named Melissa. Lucy Lane debuted six months later in Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen, where she was Jimmy's love interest. The 1986 John Byrne Man of Steel reboot told a new version of the Bizarro story with Lucy Lane as the blind girl; that's probably the story you're thinking of.

A small part of me is worried that they went the "fake out" bad guy route again, but a much bigger part of me is glad that it wasn't Doomsday after all. :)

How Lois said "Doomsday“ makes me think that maybe they already did Doomsday without us.

But at 22 minutes an episode, you can blink and miss the worst of it.

Yeah. I would like to see more Superman action as well, but I know the show isn’t just about him. There is only so much they can do with their budget

Am I the only one who thinks it's odd how they treated Sarah kissing some one else? I get the similarities, but a secret identity really isn't the same, and I get her mom's gonna' be on her side, but if Lana's husband kissed some one else and Lana didn't forgive him would she "not deserve him"? Then...did Jonathon seriously apologize to her at the end?

No, I thought that was odd too. My assumption is Lana, like Clark (ironic it's these two) know Sarah and Jordan will most likely not last, and there isn't a reason to scold her daughter for what happened at summer camp. Lana could've worded it differently/better, but I assume that was the logic behind her talk.

Superman already fought Doomsday so not using him here was a good idea. Well, that was pre-crisis so that may not count. But whatever. We’ve had enough Doomsday stuff to last me awhile.

I don't think there's a very strong analogy between two teenagers who've been dating for a few months and a pair of adults who've been married for over 15 years. Teens are going to experiment and make mistakes and be unsure of what they want, and they haven't made any firm commitments. Indeed, they really shouldn't, because what feels like eternal passion one month may be forgotten the next. Clark was right about that. Even if teenagers know what they want at the time, they're still growing and changing and won't be the same people a year or two later. Most couples who get married before age twenty end up divorced.

And Sarah was honest about it. She wasn't trying to hide some ongoing affair; she voluntarily admitted to a one-time lapse. It's always seemed to me that the problem isn't non-exclusivity per se, as there are couples who do just fine having open or polyamorous relationships. The problem is lying about it, keeping secrets, breaking trust. That's the real infidelity. Sarah hesitated at first, but then she told the truth of her own volition.

And the fact that a secret identity isn't the same was the point. Jordan felt it was, but he was wrong. Clark's secret is much bigger, and more importantly, it's not Jordan's secret to share. Telling someone else wouldn't just affect Jordan, it would affect his whole family.

It could also affect the entire Kushing Family if Sara knew of the secret.

Superman's enemies could use that as leverage against Sara if they even suspected that Sara knew who Superman's real identity was.

That can lead to a entire potential pandora's box of bad ends for her entire family, herself, Clark's family, and the world.

I'm glad John Henry Irons is getting a suit upgrade.

Honestly, I've never bought that rationale. The traditional argument is "I must keep my secret from Lois/Jimmy/Perry because bad guys could torture them for my identity," but the fact is that the only reason they'd suspect they knew Superman's identity is because they already do associate openly and routinely with Superman, so that makes them targets whether they actually know his identity or not, since all it takes is the suspicion that they might. So it's hypocritical to say it's about protecting them, since they could still be tortured for information they don't have. It's really about protecting himself.

But in this case, there's no direct public interaction between Superman and the Cushing family, so why would any bad guy have reason to suspect that Sarah knew anything about Superman? The only reason she'd become a target would be if she openly associated with Superman, and in that case she's be in danger whether she knew the secret or not. The only other way it would happen is if she spilled the secret, so it's not really about whether she's safe, it's about whether she can be trusted to keep a confidence.

Superman Returns did that first IIRC.

In retrospect, it makes sense that it is a version of Kal-El, since it was only affecting him. I hope we don't get the goofy version though.

Yeah, that was a bit weird. Also, nobody really explored the implications of that kiss. Is Sarah hesitant about being locked into a relationship with Jordan? Does she feel obligated in some way to be Jordan's girlfriend? And, on a basic chemistry level, is Sarah romantically compatible with Jordan?
