When did Earth stop having armies or navies?

I'd love to see that on a future Star Trek if they ever have stuff on Earth. Maybe we have cities under the sea
the show is contemporary to tos

A lot of the regiments in the British Army are, at least nominally, region; (Royal Welsh, Royal Anglian, Coldsteam Guards, Royal Gurkha Rifles spring to mind). Are other nation's armies organised like that?

*If* the UE/UN/UFP kept armies, I could imagine that structure extending to that.

dJE

yes and no or better no and yes
  • no, they are not formerly welsh units now under british command but a british unit where most of the officers an men are welsh
  • yes, until ww II nearly every army did it that way which let to devastating results (e.g. at d-day the young men of entire towns were nearly wiped out because being in the same unit means all of them being in the first few landing crafts hitting the beaches)

We never saw all that much about how the average person lives in Star Trek times, that's really a part of the franchise I'd like to see explored tbh.

This will sound super corny and silly but I'd love to see more shows in the Star Trek universe that don't involve spaceships and space lasers, I mean why can't Star Trek be big like the Marvel or DC franchises and why can't we have something like a Star Trek cop show or Star Trek CSI, I mean crime still does happen doesn't it or have people become robots, apart from Picard LOL?

I like Trekking among the Stars.
Don't most Marvel properties involve people with super powers doing stuff, usually beating up other people with super powers. Sure sometimes the person with superpowers is a PI or a lawyer, but it's still pretty much the same thing.

Yes but that's Marvel you know what to expect from that place.
Star Trek could be so much more if we had shows in the same universe that didn't rely on spaceships or anomallies of the week. As the other poster said why can't we have shows where we see how everyone else on Earth outside of Starfleet live and do things, like I said a cop show or a CSI type show. I'd love that.

So not like Marvel then?

TOS and to a degree TNG and VOY used to do that. Weekly mysteries to solve.

Now everything is on a galactic/multi-verse level.

I’m thinking SNW might get back to the old formula.

In TNG Family, the Atlantis Project was trying to raise the sea floor until it was a new continent.

No real point on doing that if there were underwater cities?

Population control via colonization.

There are not billions of humans on Earth.

Raising the sea floor will alter the equation that allows for population limits.

Even if no one lives on Atlantis, once it's at sea level, the additional millions of square kilometres, means that they have to deport millions less people, after every census.

Of course if everyone has an id, and can't use a free replicator without an id, then they don't need a census.

Yes, historical reservations, like where that helmgirl from discovery comes from, pretending that it's the past, but there is no way that those fuckers are not tagged, especially if they don't actually know that they are living in the future.

Lt. Joann Owosekun, Owo to her friends.

If she'd had more than four lines, I may know her damn name without googling.

Googling was bullshit by the way.

It was confused by their being two black women on the bridge.

Salamander rights people.... Freedom rallies don't let the man take their rights.

Family is a good episode but I question the whole idea of raising the ocean floor, why not just build there in the ocean?

Legacy.

In ten thousand years, after the apes takes over, a continent sized seabase has sunk and rusted to dust, at the bottom of the ocean, but if the bottom of the ocean is 12 meters above sealevel, the apes have plenty of room to make all the kennels they want for their human cattle.

As I said multiple times on this Forum, I could go for a Trek show set on a colony, detailing the Life of the colonists.

A cop show could work particularly well in a place like Freecloud. Though that would be a very dark show.

Freecloud is about as perfect a setting as you would get for a cop show in Star Trek though as the Kelvin movies showed us in 2009 they still have beat cops even if they are robots because young Kirk was pulled over for speeding. So some things like speeding laws still exist and are enforced.

Yeah, I don't see a Freecloud cop show having much to go on.
"Wait, detective. You have to pack up and leave."
"Pack up and leave a murder investigation?"
"We already know who did it, Nausican mercenaries hired by that crazy Cardassian crime lord who calls himself Gul."
"Great, let's go make some arrests."
"Can't."
"Why the hell not?"
"Gul just bribed the Chief to look the other way. Which is why we have to pack and can't arrest anyone."

Helmgirl is the redhead with the cybernetic eye. Owo is Ops.
