News Moon Knight anticipation thread.

Moon Knight will be the next Marvel show to debut on Disney Plus with the first episode dropping on March 30th. Starring Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector (and all of his passengers) and Ethan Hawke as the currently unknown villain. Moon Knight is an interesting character. Batman with a mythological twist that embraces, rather than avoids, the fact that this character is nuts.

The character's powers and origins are steeped in Egyptian lore and by the looks of it, they seem to be leaning heavily into it for the show as well.

Looks very promising, I'm very curious to see Oscar Isaac's full performance. And either I missed the announcement or I completely forgot that Ethan Hawke was going to be in this.

I was surprised by the British accents (though to be fair I'm not super familiar with Moon Knight). If this is set in London (well, at least partially), I wonder if Blade will make an appearance.

Looks like a Netflix Marvel show. Didn’t realise he was English. He might bang into Blade and/or Jon Snow.
People forget that Blade is English

Blade didn't sound English in his (voice-only) cameo in Eternals, but they could still have him based in London.

The only Moon Knight I ever read was the first issue of the 1980 book when I was a kid. Though I read that thing until it disintegrated so it's burned pretty much into my mind. So it's kind of surreal to see this and obviously not what I was expecting but I have a singularly narrow frame of reference!

I'd rather they let Moon Knight, the first season at the very least, stand alone without a lot of outside characters and events peeking through.
The previous shows have had a surprise in them. I don’t see this being any different

Batman? I had no idea Moon Knight was a detective in the MCU???

In the comics, the character had three distinct personalities-- Marc Spector, Steven Grant and Jake Lockley. The woman in the museum called him "Steven", which would indicate this was his Steven Grant persona. Perhaps it's only Steven that is British, while Marc Spector and the Jake Lockley personas are not.

This looks so good. Oscar Issac is just going to feast on a role like this. I even love the way they've visualized the suit, with the mummy kind of vibe. So cool.

So, it looks like we're getting Marc and Steven Grant. I wonder if they'll include Jake? Might be better to leave him out at first to keep things simple. Maybe tease a third personality towards the end of the run as set up for developments later on.

My real question, however, is if they will give us the Mr. Knight/Moon Knight dichotomy that's the newer take from the comics. It works really, really well on the page. But might need some time to set it up before it makes sense on screen. I just really want to see Isaac in the Mr. Knight suit, I think he would rock that particular look.

Captions on the trailer named Ethan Hawke's villain as Arthur Harrow. I actually had to look that one up it's such a deep cut. I got $5 says they're merging him with Sun King.

That looks interesting. I think I read a few Moon Knight comics back in the 80s or 90s but can't recall much about it other than the outfit, though I do recall he had crescent moon shaped shurikens that reminded me of batarangs!

Isaac is usually eminently watchable so definitely going to watch this.

The extent of my knowledge of Moon Knight is limited to the Marvel Comic trading cards of the early 90s and a six-part miniseries in Amazing Spider-Man in 1991 that focused on Moon Knight's former partner Midnight and how he didn't actually died (suffice to say, things got...messy). I always found the character fascinating with his connections to Egyptian mythology but I didn't really know that much such as..

I had no idea about this until relatively recently. There was zero sense that he had three different personalities in the aforementioned mini-series, I guess because either it wasn't relevant...or it hadn't been developed yet?

So he’s like the Beast? Interesting.
More like the Beast is like Moon Knight who is like many other characters before him with similar situations, but okay.

For those of us who don't know much about Moon Knight, can you expand on both of these?

Saw the trailer earlier this afternoon and it looks really good. It wasn't quite what I expected, but I like what I saw. Looks like this might end up being the darkest of the Disney+ shows so far.
EDIT: Marvel has also released a trailer reaction video with Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke. I have to confess, when I saw Hawke in the trailer, I thought he was Kevin Bacon. I didn't realize it was Hawke until you guy talked about him here.

Arthur Harrow literally has only made one appearance in the comics. Amazingly enough, I read it back in the day.

Sun King is a newer character.

Haven't read any of the comics with "Mr. Knight", but if I recall correctly it had the character abandoning the superhero suit and just going around beating people up wearing a white mask and a white suit and tie. I never really cared for the visual on that.

As for his history of mental illness, I know he had the three secret identities right from the start, but I don't recall when they were established as being separate personas. I think it's something that they kind of worked into. I just shot a p.m. on Facebook to Brian "Comics Should Be Good" Cronin and asked him if he had ever done an article tracing the history of Moon Knight's mental illness and he said that he planned to some time ago, but decided to hold off until we were closer to the show. I will link to his article when he publishes it.
