What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

After actively participating on this forum for a few months now, ‪‪I feel like one of my most controversial opinions might be:

‪‪I like all of it. ‪‪I genuinely enjoy all of the shows to varying degrees, and though I’m not uncritical, there isn’t one of them ‪‪I hate at all, or have a huge objection to. None of them are perfect television series, and not all are my favorites, but ‪‪‪‪I have fun watching all of it. Even the movies ‪‪I enjoy the least ‪‪I’ll get some fun out of rewatching.
YES! Count me in that group too. And directly because of all you nutballs, I'm even going to try the 2 shows I dropped when they originally aired (VOY & ENT).

Star Trek has always given me *hope*. As someone with depression, I need that. And, as @Richard S. Ta wrote above, I love the ethos & philosophy of Trek. "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations" is a touchstone for my life.

Controversial opinion: I can barely tell the difference.
Oh thank god I'm not the only one!

If I was a Bezos billionaire, I’d fund a bunch of Firefly/Serenity sequels.

Well, that and destroy all my enemies. :shifty:
:techman:

Because doing stupid or irresponsible things due to infatuation is only for adolescents?
Come on, that isn't what they said or even implied. It was just a metaphor.

You know, those are the only series ‪‪since I’ve been watching that I didn’t catch as it aired originally, partially due to lacking interest. ‪‪It wasn’t for years that I finally watched them both all the way through, and I’m glad I did. While they’re not my most favorite, there are things about both series, and moments and characters that ‪‪I truly adore. Voyager is all over the place for me, but when it works it works so well.

YES! IDIC is something ‪‪I try to take to heart, and that I say maybe too often in my life.

Most probably to the annoyance of even the other Trek fans in my life, other than my nephew, who usually just holds up the Vulcan salute when ‪‪I do so.

Same... Am I a philistine?

It's mostly in the 'arms' that connect the nacelles to the main hull and the red bits (impulse engines?) on the rear of the saucer.

Controversial opinion: I can barely tell the difference and making an alt-version for DVD/Blu-Ray/Whatever would be a waste of time and resources.

I absolutely hear you on trek being a depression tonic. YANA.

I love Voyager, as imperfect as it is.

Enterprise is a different animal altogether. I have a soft spot for it for personal reasons. I will say it improves greatly in seasons 3 and 4.

Enjoy!

VOY began strong, gradually dropped for three seasons and then jumped up significantly with the addition of Seven of Nine. Then it bounced up and down until the end with the quality veering wildly.

ENT started strong then kind of meandered, hitting its lowpoint in quality in Season 2 with a series of "meh" or downright bad episodes before the Xindi Arc and then Season 4 bringing the series to a rousing conclusion with just a handful of boring and dud episodes in the mix. "TATV..." is just a myth. That's the official story and I'm sticking to it.

No. But it wasn't a dream -- it was a place. And you -- and you -- and you -- and you were there.

Relics (TNG) would have been better off using TOS Movie era sets to recreate the 'original' Enterprise. As nice as it is to see the classic 60s set in TNG, they could have saved themselves (and everyone else) a lot of pain further down the line if they'd gone with the movie style.

My take on VOY and ENT (both of which I also stopped watching during first-run):

ENT Season 1 --> I thought it was okay when it focused on stuff specific to the 22nd Century.
ENT Season 2 --> With a handful of exceptions, it lived up to -- or should I say down to? -- its horrible reputation.
ENT Season 3 --> There were some strong episodes but, on the whole, it wasn't really my thing.
ENT Season 4 --> I like this season and I recommend it.

VOY Season 1 --> Ehhhh.... I wanted to like it more than I did.
VOY Season 2 --> Some good episodes, but quality overall was like New England weather.
VOY Season 3 --> I like this season. The series was starting to get into its groove.
VOY Season 4 --> This is the best season of the series. Seven gave it a shot in the arm.
VOY Season 5 --> A lot of good episodes mixed in with some of what I thought were the worst.
VOY Season 6 --> It's okay, but just kind of there for the most part.
VOY Season 7 --> This was an uptick.

VOY was all over the map during its seven years. Easily the most inconsistent and frustrating of all the series during the "Golden Age" of Trek on TV(1987-2005).
Which is why I eventually stopped watching VOY, but also why I'd kept watching it all the way up until 1999. If it was a total wash, I would've stopped watching in 1995. The good episodes are what kept me going. But eventually the constant up-and-down finally got to be too much for me.
