What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Hell, in the end, Dukat was just a mustache-twirling RKO villain. Of course, the same could be said of Kai Winn.

Winn was always like that though. There was never anything to the character beyond “she’s evil”. Her arc should have been given to Bareil. Him going from super good guy/Kira’s lover to angry bad guy would have worked better.

I’ve always thought they should have killed off Dukat sometime after “Sacrifice…” instead of making him the ultimate bad guy. Maybe let Kira make good in her promise to kill him.

They should remaster Enterprise and replace all exterior shots of the NX-01 with the Ringship.

Unpopular enough for you guys?

only if we can go back and re-master both Disco and SNW to replace the Discoprise with the proper TOS Enterprise.

It's a shame they couldn't have rendered two versions of each scene, once with the Discoprise and one with the Original Series model, then let viewers pick what they wanted to see. Somehow I doubt they would've made their money back on that feature though.

even I am not that fond of me

I just take the ring ship and any others like it as a separate developmental path that tried to emulate the Vulcans for awhile and got nowhere. The Vulcans probably didn't offer any more help than they did the Warp Five Complex, so eventually a Cochraine style arrangement won out.

‪‪I like all of it. ‪‪I genuinely enjoy all of the shows to varying degrees, and though I’m not uncritical, there isn’t one of them ‪‪I hate at all, or have a huge objection to. None of them are perfect television series, and not all are my favorites, but ‪‪‪‪I have fun watching all of it. Even the movies ‪‪I enjoy the least ‪‪I’ll get some fun out of rewatching.

Same. Certainly there are series I like more than others (and movies) and there are truly crap episodes scattered throughout 50-odd years worth of it, but I like Star Trek. I like the world, the language, the ethos and the philosophy of Star Trek. i could rewatch any of it at any given moment.

I'm with you. There are some that I will always like more than others, but all are enjoyable on some level. Even my most disliked movies, I can appreciate something about it. (Though INTO DARKNESS is the one I truly struggle to find myself enjoying. And while I found the '09 movie flawed in too many ways to count, I do appreciate that it did the job it was supposed to do... revitalize STAR TREK interest to the general populace.)

Only if they also re-master all the other scenes to replace the characters, dioalogue and storylines with something less horrible.

That second shot or something very similar would have spared the show a lot of grief.

That's beautiful.

Controversial opinion: I can barely tell the difference.

So having just binged all of the Original Series over the Christmas period, I'd like to say that looking at 1960s Star Trek today with a modern perspective, it feels surprisingly old-fashioned – especially with its treatment of women. Some of it is downright creepy. Apparently "finding a woman attractive" is a sufficient excuse for everything from failing to obey orders to attempting murder; it's like a ship full of horny adolescent neckbeards. Kirk has that reputation of being a "lady's man" with a girl in every port, sure, but he's not even the worst offender – McCoy, Scotty, and Chekov made me downright uncomfortable at times. And McCoy's fantastic racism against Spock comes across as really awkward today.
