What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I think Dukat should have had Damar's "redemption arc" - but with the twist he never really changed, only that he saw it advantageous to switch over to the other side. Then, he dies, and gets remembered as the hero of Cardassia - and the whole cast has to deal with it. Sometimes history makes heroes out of monsters after all.

That's an excellent idea, and both very Dukat and very DS9. Reminds me a bit of Michael Dobbs's "The Final Cut" (one of the novels the House of Cards TV series was based on).

Yes, but a sane bad guy. I harbour no illusions about whether Dukat was redeemable or not; he was a monster. However, the complex monster with relatable elements is much more interesting to me than the quasi-religious whackjob Dukat became. Prior to "Waltz" I looked forward to Dukat appearing, it gave the episodes an extra frisson; but after that he became boring.

I think that choosing to serve the Pagh-wraiths in exchange for getting to rule over the ashes they leave is a choice that makes perfect sense given Dukat's lust for power. The guy spent his life obsessed with finding a way to dominate Bajor and make the Bajorans worship him for killing them; embracing their version of Satanism as an act of spite seems quite plausible to me.

I think that choosing to serve the Pagh-wraiths in exchange for getting to rule over the ashes they leave is a choice that makes perfect sense given Dukat's lust for power. "Sacrifice of Angels" and "Waltz" make it pretty clear that he lost his mind, at least for a time. While the end of season six and season seven show him regaining some functionality he's clearly only a shadow of his former self.

He clearly suffered a mental health crisis, but I'm not convinced he was legally insane, nor that it persisted after "Waltz."

Allow me to rephrase in a controversial opinion sort of way-visual continuity is OK, but when it is overemphasized in Star Trek it misses the point of the franchise.

They should digitally insert the NX-01 into the TMP Rec Room alcove display since Will Decker says "all those vessels were called Enterprise." Past tense. Technically the NCC-1701 would still be around, just in her newfangled refitted form.

Plenty of room left in the timeline for the ring ship to go flying around in. It looks like what would happen if all the founding Federation planets teamed up to design a spaceship together. Then afterwards they thought "Okay, let's just copy the NX-01 instead from now on."

Works for me. One of the few aspects of the production design in Enterprise I don't like is the external appearance of the ship.
