Spoilers The Dr. Agnes Jurati Thread

I've been wondering what's going to be Jurati's storyarc for season 2.Especially Agnes with the Borg Queen in the scene from the new season 2 preview.

Oh, Jesus Christ- that romance between her and Maddox was creepy. Cringe- worthy. This is one of the many shortcomings of having just ten episodes a season. Yeah, I know Sir Patrick doesn't want to work that long. It's his prerogative. But you can't get in enough character development in that amount of time without characters getting short shifted.

If we can get her out of jail and forget the whole Maddox relationship thing happened, she has potential to be a great character. If Soji can forgive her, I think they can form a good relationship.

For what it's worth... I felt The Last Best Hope (Una McCormack) shed a lot of light on Jurati's relationship with Maddox, her psychology, his psychology, but especially, on the motivation for killing him... it doesn't shy away from how messed up the dynamic of their relationship was, or the flaws in each of these very broken people.

Would you comment further on what you thought the psychology of each was? It would be interesting to see your take.

For the Zhat Vash he was the Ground Zero for the Admonition and the "father" of the Destroyer. Do the the math.

So why didn't Jurati feel any compulsion to kill herself immediately after Maddox, if the meld had such a strong hold on her? After all, with Maddox as her mentor, as far as the Romulans know Jurati is absolutely the one person left alive with the greatest amount of knowledge and insight into his work. Why wouldn't Oh want both of those ultra-dangerous minds gone while the Zhat Vash forces continue to hunt the nest? Did Oh have any expectation that the meld's hold would weaken? It clearly did since Jurati was able to throw it off easily upon meeting Soji. Remember the relatively light impact the Admonition had on Jurati -- she just puked and was shaken but ok in another minute, compared to how violently most Romulans reacted.

Jurati's later self-poisoning doesn't count as an actual suicide attempt. She knew it was actually her only chance to survive, given the certain-death of getting tracked and blown up.

Perhaps Romulans react more deeply and irrationally than humans. Or it was an unintentional side effect of the emotional bond between Juranti and Maddox.

Agreed 100%. I have to fast forward through the "cookie baking scene" because it makes me want to barf.
To be fair, most Star Trek romance scenes make me want to do that

I was trying to make the point that it's certain Oh had some knowledge of how humans react to melds in general, if not specifically to the Admonition. Then again it would have been dumb for Oh not to have tested the Admonition on random human(s) rather than take a total gamble on losing an invaluable mole like Jurati.

Suppose Jurati had gone insane on the spot, right there in the open? Ripped her own face off or smashed her own skull in? Was Oh just gonna walk off and leave the body lying next to Jurati's lunchbox?

So what did Oh expect? I'd have to go back to canon (Spock's numerous melds - maybe the one with Valeris? Tuvok's melds?) to see if there's anything to support a meld "wearing off" due to time, trauma, or whatever.

I don't think the way this (or any number of other major plot points) was portrayed in PIC was very logical or well thought out, unfortunately.

It works fine if you realize Oh couldn't be logical.

I don't buy that for a second. No way did Oh make it all the way up through the ranks to Commodore, and get the critical job as head of Starfleet Security (2390-2399), without performing rationally and highly effectively over a period of decades. She *had* to have had her shit thoroughly together. Not to mention there are psych tests that she had to pass as a prospective Starfleet cadet, and a pysch profile was routinely kept on officers.

Logical about the Admonition. Also, Romulans can fake it very well, given they infiltrated the Vulcan embassy.

Remember she also had sex with Rios, that really helped her get over it quick.
(while the cold dead body still lay in sick bay) :barf:

The character is just full creep zone. The more it's analyzed and rationalized by some the worse it gets, and the more they just move on ignore it and pretend like it never happened, the creepy just extends onto those wanting to pretend it didn't happen.

Pretty sure she was having a psychotic break pretty much from the Admonition till her confession.

Among others.
The fact that you recognize the intent to cover up as a moment of lucidity, means unlike the others who insanely bashed their own heads in, ripped their faces off and blew their own brains out, means unlike them SHE recognize(was of clear mind)) that what she was doing was wrong,

The absurdity of them just "moving on" after she tried to cover up the murder aside,
And despite that....
Whatever hell she is going through here..

And these new shots, it does look like they will have some fun with her character...

Do Borg implants give you super powers?
Edit: Unless that's Soji in a blond wig?

Looking forward to it. ;)
