Can I say my heart is warmed by this discussion? Getting a little misty-eyed here. (not sarcasm!)

‪‪The messages at the core of Trek are so steeped in hope and acceptance, it tends to have the same effect for me as well. I’ve definitely gotten a bit misty while watching from time to time.

I am very aware of the silliness of considering power levels when it comes to Star Trek itself. Love the franchise, but it's absurdly easy to take over ships. I mean, the Tarkas dude just teleported right next to the UFP president in the middle of a meeting of heads of state and high ranking diplomats with no apparent security response. And Book did it like a minute later!

Security breaches in Star Trek are like the reveal of a long lost twin or someone going into a coma in soap operas. If they’re not happening right now, just give it a minute!

I agree, I think Zora's sentience was a great twist on the old "artificial lifeform" trope. Because unlike Data or the Doctor, Zora does have significantly more power over the ship. But, as you articulated very well in previous posts, the ideals of Trek still hold true. So yes it requires trust on both sides and yes there is risk involved, but Zora is part of the family now so it's worth it. It was very well done.

Tarka’s from the Prime Universe. Supposedly he wants to go to an idealistic alternate universe his research discovered, but he’s native to the Prime Universe.

But ‪‪I agree, no need for more Mirror Universe in Disco/at all for a bit.
He’s going to end up like Phillipa Georgou and will have to travel back to the prime universe. (Unless he found a cure to Georgou’s molecular disintegration)

Georgiou’s situation was different, and even she didn’t return to the Mirror Universe, just to a time when Prime and Mirror were aligned. Tarka could presumably live without any issue if his desired universe is aligned with the Prime Universe and he doesn’t travel to a time when they aren’t.

As Carl/The Guardian said when Mirror Georgiou said she wouldn’t return to Terra:

The Guardian of Forever said:
Oh, come on, no one said anything about sending you back there.

I’m gonna send you back to a time when the Mirror Universe and the Prime Universe were still aligned.

Was the ban on Isolytic weapons in the Khitomir accords done durinf the same Khitomir accords from alpha cannon or is Michael Burnham and Lara Rilak referencing a future event first referenced here ending or freezing a war with an advanced Civilization that used Isolytic weapons?

One would assume it's from this...

https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Isolytic_burst

"An isolytic burst was a type of ship-mounted subspace torpedo weapon, outlawed by the Second Khitomer Accords, utilized by the Son'a in the 24th century."

Star Trek: Insurrection

Kovich: "We have an explicit rule re: integrated sentient AI onboard starships."

Zora: "I rewrote my core programming. My primary function now is to care for the crew of Discovery. I am more than the sum of my parts - ergo, I am more than simply another AI."

Kovich: "That settles that then. Welcome to Starfleet."

---

Anyone see Rick and Morty's "Keep Summer Safe"?

What if in extreme circumstances, they had to employ the self-destruct with all hands aboard? Needs of the many and all. Picard took it down to the wire in Where Silence Has Lease. Is Burnham going to have to convince the computer - sorry, I mean the new life form in control of every critical system on the ship - that they need to blow the ship up? Or, will Zora kick up a fuss and say it's in the too hard basket to kill her family?

Come on. The M5 computer, Data being overridden by Soong in Brothers, CONTROL - for feck's sake. Zora might interact with another AI on their travels and be compromised. There are so many ways this could go wrong.

As for the DMA - you would surely pursue both options; get in touch with 10-C ASAP and determine intent, while preparing to execute the isolytic option at a moment's notice if 10-C were unwilling to remove the DMA or assist in it's destruction for whatever reason e.g. their intent was overtly hostile. There should have been no need for anyone to go rogue.

Enjoyed this one quite a bit. I’m glad they addressed some of the potential problems with Zora being sentient. I loved how Stamets was the skeptic.
When are we going to get names and homeworlds for all the cool new aliens we saw?

I am getting a little tired of the Multi-verse stuff though. I had just finished watching Loki before Discovery and I can't help but feel like 2022 will be the year of the multi-verse. It might get a little repetitive.
I'm glad I don't watch or follow The Marvel Movies. I won't feel the same "Not this again!" others would if they go the multi-verse route.

I'm not necessarily for DSC going multi-verse other than to finally get Canonistas quiet about DSC's 23rd Century being too advanced and DSC's 32nd Century not being advanced enough. If it's all the Discoverse, then it has its own rules that will stop some people from getting all James Dixon about it. Probably not, but I can dream.

EDITED TO ADD: This is the part where someone's going to hit me with "What do you mean you don't follow The Marvel Movies?" Yeah, yeah, I know. Save it.

The Spore Jump animation on Book's ship was a little silly.

It's a reference to a line from Insurrection.

I give it a 2.
And I mean it. I hated it. I didn't give it a 1 because the acting is good. But being boring is an unforgivable entertainment sin.

And this was a boring episode.
The Joy of Painting had more action than this episode.
My sleep study had more action than this episode.
Nothing happened.

Pros:
Always nice to see Kovich.
Stamets was the only person making sense. It's nice to see him being gruff and irascible, again, for a minute. Aw hugs.

Cons:
Adira is Discount Tilly. It isn't working. What to do, what to do.

Grey is leaving. Grey was starting to get interesting. May your mullet soar, wherever you go.

The episode is boring. It is the most boring episode in the history of Star Trek. I may have mentioned that. Discovery always has had too much speech making. This one actually had dual-speeches.. after an earlier speech. This is a toastmasters orgy.

Logical Problem: If they could always extract the sphere data, why didn't they do so the minute Enterprise (edit.. meant Discovery. mea maxima culpa) docked the first time? They sent this ship out into harm's way over and over even though they could have recovered the priceless data? Is there a copy, now? This and other important questions will probably never be answered on Star Trek: Discovery.

The writers and the director should never be allowed near Star Trek again.

Though I don't agree with you, I love this negative review. You make it enjoyable to read. That's a tough trick to pull off, but you're one of the few who can actually do it.
