Found this wallpaper the other day, and I just couldn't not use it. I love Christmas trees, and while I'm more a fan of colored lights, this was just too pretty to pass up.

How do you get the animated effects to work as a desktop image? That looks cool.

You have to convert the .gif to a video file. You can do that here:

Then you need some kind of program to do a video desktop. I have a desktop enhancement software bundle called "Object Desktop" with a program called "Deskscapes 11" allowing you to do video desktops. There are other methods to do it as well:

My usual desktop is an animated interior of the Millennium Falcon cockpit as it comes out of hyperspace and zooms up to Earth.

I'll check all that out but don't feel super confident I'll be happy with a few flashing lights on the picture if I get around to trying it.

I don't care how much it looked like the Akira, the NX Enterprise is a damn fine looking ship.

Back in the day, I downloaded a mod for Bridge Commander that let you fly the NX, and it was a lot of fun. I remember when the series came out and people were like "it looks like a submarine," as if that was a problem. I mean, ENT was set only a 150 years in the future, and I'd imagine our ships would look submarine-ish at that point.

Yep. If you look at 21st century spacecraft like the Ares IV from 2032 and Zefram Cochrane's Phoenix the NX-01 is almost the perfect midpoint between NASA and early warp drive and the TOS Enterprise.
