Game Star Trek Resurgence - new Star Trek videogame announced

shame the game is most likely DOA on pc since it's on EGS

But I thought humans in Star Trek had evolved beyond things like the accumulation of wealth...

Yeah it sucks about the EGS stuff, but I'm glad an actual Star Trek game is finally being made after all these years.

I don't know what to make of this as it is top heavy in cgi cut scenes, and that usually is not a good sign of what is to come, so will just have to wait but the trailer did nothing for me personally.

This is the first I’ve heard of the game, usually first trailers lack any real gameplay from what I’ve seen. Hard to ever judge something on its first public display.

Since a single player experience is rare in the Trek gaming space right now, I’ll going to try to stay positive about it.

Hm... look up 1st and 3rd person, Alien Isolation, Satisfactory, We Were Here, Tomb Raider, DS9 The Fallen,...? :p
If it's like any other Telltale game, it will be nothing like those games.

These kinds of games have a lot of cutscenes with dialogue choices.

I was first excited when I heard the announcement, but then I felt disappointed when I saw that it's an interactive narrative game like most other Telltale games.

Yeah, I would have been more excited for the early Telltale style, which would have made it feel more like 25th Anniversary, and given that Telltale had an episodic approach, it would have been perfect given it's exactly what that game did, years before anyone else. When they introduced the straightforward storytelling style 'with choices' in 2010, they lost me.

Still, maybe this is what's needed to spark more interest in Trek games overall. Maybe it's them dipping their toes back into the market.

The only Telltale game I really enjoyed was the Back to the Future game since it wasn't an interactive narrative game and was an adventure game like the old Star Trek adventure games like TNG: A Final Unity.

Agreed. Loved their Back to the Future game. It was also their most successful game before Walking Dead came along, and also the last of the classic adventure game style. Shortly after, they released their Jurassic Park game which introduced their new narrative style.

When I was watching the trailer, I was thinking "oh, no, another mobile game"...... So, I am over-the-moon that this will be on PC and I'll buy it. Its the first PC one since Bridge Crew.

I loved the Telltale "walking dead" games, so am looking forward to this. It could be teh next 25th Ann/J Rites/AFU! :)

Yeah, I hold no love for EGS. Console exclusives are one thing, because they are physically different platforms. But to divide PC players by the delivery platform they use is stupid. It's what I call faux exclusivity. It should be available everywhere where games can be bought digitally instead of creating barriers into entry. The PC itself is the platform.

So developers should work their asses off so they can give do-nothing Valve 30% of the sales? I really can't blame a dev that wants an extra 18% cut of their own work by going to Epic/Microsoft instead.

No, 18% is one thing, but I'd argue that luring developers into an exclusive contract is not going to be beneficial in the long-run when you could benefit from having as many eyeballs as possible, which is especially important for smaller developers. The PC should technically be platform agnostic. Why shouldn't a game also be available on Steam and GOG alongside EGS? Why limit someone's potential revenue stream? Sure, they'd get a little less of a cut via Valve or GOG, but it would be an additional revenue stream, not a replacement. So, if EGS gives them a 18% cut, that should be on top of everything else they get elsewhere rather than being locked into an exclusivity contract. Working their asses off and being seen by as many as possible is the better way to go.

I've been wanting a Telltale style Star Trek game since I found out what Telltale style games are, so I'm really looking forward to this. As much as I love stuff like the Elite Force games, this really feels like a much better fit for Trek than those kind of shooter games.

Hopefully it is time exclusive to EGS and we see it on Steam or GOG.

I used EGS once and had an awful experience, couldn't get a refund like I could on Steam, so just refuse to use their platform anymore.

I'm excited about this. I've always liked the Telltale Games. The last one I really enjoyed was Last Stop.

And just a few days ago we were all so sad about the lack of Star Trek games. :D

The people who get paid to make those decisions disagree I guess
Epic bribes offers them money up front to make their games exclusive to their platform.

The game is also running on the Unreal Engine, so there's extra bonuses there. I think there's a discount on the engine licence, but I could be mistaken. Either way, Epic's dealings are very anti-consumer.

The EGS exclusivity agreements are usually only for a year, so it might show up on Steam in 2023.

Yeah, and due to their exclusivity contracts, devs often have no say in where their money goes. I've heard stories of small devs being approached by Epic and who've declined based on the prospect of being locked down would mean lesser visibility. And visibility might not matter so much if it's an already established developer whose name is known, but it absolutely does with smaller ones.

Thing about a Trek game being an exclusive, is that it's already a small enough market to begin with without the exclusivity creating a barrier.
