Revist of UNfavorite Episodes

I also think if there were a General Order Twenty-Four - Commit Genocide if Necessary then it would require confirmation. You know Scott would require confirmation from Spock.
I mean they had so many fake Kirks - does Scott wipe out a planet based on one communication?

Well this was the same episode where Scott quickly deduced that Anan was using a "voice duplicator" to masquerade as Kirk, so clearly they have at least some checks which are performed to make sure they are dealing with the genuine article

Id like to see the episode with Belli replace by some animated character/actor. Just replace him with either a hideous ghost or pretty princess . And cut out some of the children footage.

You know when they said they might have to kill the children, I wasn't that appalled although I should have been. Hated the children as well as Belli.

I wanted to especially turnn that red headed kid over my knee and give him a good spanking lol. Absolute brats!

^^this

It'd be a little corny, but the old "Cap'n told a pokerfib about that rule to destroy everything" trick would have fit rather nicely.

The story almost deserves a sequel, but chances would be that representatives of Ventikar came on over after Kirk left and, oops, now the situation is worse. :|

DC Comics did one.

I know I'm pushing it but we are just a few days shy of a year since the last post, so maybe I can get away with it...

My choice for rewatching an Un-Favorite last night was "Wink of an Eye." This is one of those episodes that would hve been considered a real winner on Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. The concept is cool, there's some playfulness, it's not boring and the characters are well done.

However, it's still nonsense. The Scalosians would have been dead before the Enterprise reached their planet. The inconsistencies between real time and Scalos time are mindboggling. It very much feels like the writer sat down one day and said "boy wouldn't it be cool if...?" and just threw concepts into the air.

Yet, I can't hate this one. It's fun! The only real problem I have is in the end. Spock and McCoy actually discover an antidote to the Scalosian water and Kirk and Spock keep the damned thing a secret! They just cheerfully let Deela and her people beam down without even mentiong that perhaps it would work for them. Even if the radiation which affected them is too intense, at least try. Nope. They just let Deela think they were hanging out in orbit still in an accelerated state.

I wonder if Kirk actually impregnated Deela?

This episode starts off oddly with repurposed footage from "The Empath" overdubbed with Scotty's log. They didn't even drown out all of the sound from that clip. They did some sloppy stuff in the third year, but this was pretty lazy.

Yet, again. this was fun! Kathie Brown is adorably charming and Jason Evers is really good as the put upon Rael. The sequence where Spock fixes everything behind the scenes is cool - and yes, I know this whole episode had to be written with this sequence in mind. Fun, high concept and well paced. 51 minutes well spent.

"Wink of an Eye".

My third-favorite of the series. Good review.

I watched "Elaan" a year or two ago and was stunned by how much better it was than I remembered. I doubt I had watched it in 5-10 years. Excellent suspense, very good bridge battle sequence, decent plot, and everything with Elaan was not nearly as annoying as I remembered; in fact it wasn't annoying at all.

I never spotted that before
In a couple of other episodes the captain's log voiceover has been laid over the character speaking some words to a subordinate, usually to set up the next scene. I think my brain just assumed this was one of those occasions but NOPE! :guffaw:

What Are Little Girls Made Of?

This is another of those episodes I don’t return to often. Upon revisiting, it’s actually quite good. It feels very “early” Trek. No McCoy at all, Spock is very much in the background and Kirk takes center stage. While most fans prefer production order to air date, I think this one would have worked if programmed VERY early on. Say the second or third episode in the run. It would introduce Chapel before The Naked Time, which would flow better since knowing Korby is long dead (especially the one she knew) would have her lonely heart open to being in love with Spock.

(Snipped lots of great stuff for length reasons)

I agree that this one would have been better earlier on, though the closer Christine Chapel is to #1, chronologically, the worse she fares (granted, this only applies to people who went to Tricon.)

Michael Strong is, honestly, just awful in everything. He never convinces me of anything he says. I would have enjoyed someone like Arthur Hill in this.

He plays a smarmy union boss in an episode of The Fugitive, and he works there.

Side note: the “original mono” sound mix on the blu-rays is f’n terrible – and all wrong. The engine rumble is too loud when it shouldn’t be there at all and the finale music is pieced together from the opening theme instead of being an edit of The Man Trap.

Huh! I'm so glad I got the clamshell DVDs.

Of the episodes I revisit the least, many have been mentioned here already. I’ve enjoyed reading the reviews. I think I need to rewatch TOS again. It has been years and it’s long overdue.

For me, the episodes that fall into this category are:
Mudd’s Women
Charlie X (I know it’s a favorite of some…I’ve never thought much of it)
Miri
This Side of Paradise (I agree with the review of this one…some good, some meh…mostly not anything I care about)
Who Mourns For Adonais?
Deadly Years
Platos Stepchildren
Way to Eden
Turnabout Intruder

It's the same on the DVDs, unfortunately. You need the VHS / Laserdiscs to get the right music.

Yes I went back and checked last night. Until it was pointed out I hadn't noticed. Having said that this was one of the first episodes I had on the 2 episode UK VHS tape, and I vaguely recall it being Man Trap.

I really find it unusual why certain cues were replaced over the years. I don't know where the logic is...?

Yeah, if they wanted to call it "the original mono mix," why couldn't they just take it off a 16mm syndication print or something.

I suppose the positive film prints with sound were not at hand, and it was easier to stitch something together from whatever elements and call it original. "Who's to know?"
