News Live-Action ‘Cowboy Bebop’ tv series in the works

I mean, after FTL, artificial gravity is not a stretch.

Is Bebop's "hyperspace" really FTL? The wiki claims it is, but that doesn't add up. Most of civilization in the show seems to reside in the Inner Planets and the Main Asteroid Belt, and at the speed of light, you could cross the diameter of the Main Belt in about an hour. Even crossing the diameter of Saturn's orbit (apparently the outer limit of civilization aside from a couple of more remote outposts) would take less than three hours. Yet the wiki says that hyperspace allows interplanetary travel within days, suggesting something like 1 or 2 percent of lightspeed.

But yes, aside from that, artificial gravity would be a logical outgrowth of any kind of space-warping technology. Though whether it would be practical to install it on small spacecraft, or make it widely available to the public, is another question.

Meh to the scientific plausibility - it's a genre-blending fantasy with cool music. I'm enjoying the adaptation. Episodes 4 and 5 are even better than the first three. I'm pacing myself though. I wonder if Extinction Rebellion will get any ideas from episode 4. Thankfully, that particular form of nanotech doesn't exist in the real world.

If you think my expression of ennui was aimed at you specifically, and it wasn't, notify the moderator. I just don't think discussion of scientific plausibility is appropriate to Cowboy Bebop or remotely interesting.

If someone is talking about something they do find interesting and your only contribution is to butt in and say you don't find it interesting, that is rude and invasive, whether you realize it or not. It's the equivalent of standing in front of someone trying to watch TV and saying "Change the channel, I don't want to watch this." If you aren't interested, then just don't respond. Talk about the things you want to talk about, and let the rest of us do the same.

And for what it's worth, Bebop's setting is, on the whole, a much more plausible science fiction future than most you'll find on television, and that's part of its appeal to someone like me.

Did this show in two sittings. Had a long day today, hungover, going on 3 hours sleep the night before with a 48 hour headache leading me into a wet Sunday. Thought I'd fall asleep on the street I was so tired. Come back home, eat, decide to watch ONE episode and then five episodes later I'm wide awake having finished the series. I loved it. It gets so much right, even down to the homages to Star Trek and Blade Runner that the animated series did. I think the cast chemistry is fantastic, action is great, god knows what they spent on the special effects but the space scenes are stunning. This could have gone so wrong but they completely nailed this show. This is the dream of what a live action show of an anime is.

Watched episode 2 and enjoyed just as much, if not a little more than episode one.
The fight in the bathroom was pretty good.
The bickering between Spike and Jet was fun.
Holy shit, I had no idea John Noble was in this, or at least his voice was! Do we see his face at some point, or is he just a voice?
I was a little surprised Fay didn't pop up at some point, I know she wasn't in every episode of the anime, but I figured with Daniella Pineda being a main credits regular, they'd squeeze her into every episode.

She was introduced in episode 3 of the anime, and I gather the same goes for the new show.

Has Ein shown up yet? He was introduced in episode 2.

Its not a patch on the original, but what is? I liked the first episode, but if I was gonna change something, it'd definitely be a change to the length of the episodes. Bebop excelled partly cause it was like 20-30 minutes an episode, it moved at a fast but perfect pace, this one feels a bit slowed and filler.
Does the Netflix length help the development of their characters? I think the series could replicate the pace of the anime, but it may stunt the growth of the characters.

Cool. He must be keeping pretty busy then if he did this, and voiced the bad guy on Prodigy.

Well, voice work doesn't take up a lot of time.

So between Noble and John Cho, that's two Star Trek actors in significant roles. I also recognize one more, Wade Williams (from ENT: "Civilization"), who plays Fad in one episode.

Hey, is this a New Zealand production? I see some familiar names in the cast list from that part of the world, like Nathaniel Lees (a stalwart of Hercules/Xena and Lord of the Rings), Elizabeth Hawthorne (who played Hercules's mother), and a couple of Power Rangers commanders, James Gaylyn (RPM) and Teuila Blakey (Beast Morphers).

Rachel House is also in the cast list for ep. 2 on IMDB, I'm not positive but I think she was the female leader of The Syndicate.

You were talking about Kiwis on the show, and she's another one that you missed.
