What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Yet he could grow a new kidney in minutes with a pill... I don't think even Bashir or the Doctor could do that.

yeah, McCoy could give you a pill to grow a new kidney but Picard needs an artificial heart.

The problem with Star Trek medicine, any edition, is it vacillates between super-duper gee wizz science, and civil war battlefield surgeon by the incident.

You cannot make a general statement about it.

Perhaps getting stabbed means a different type of treatment.

I am amazed that he made it to the infirmary. I mean he was stabbed in the middle of drunken selfish irresponsible assholes. It's a wonder someone even thought about calling the 24th century equivalent to 911. The laughter is ridiculous, when you are stabbed THROUGH the heart with such a nasty dagger you are dead long before you can even move your lips, let alone laugh.

Personal experience talking? :vulcan:

There's never been one case of someone talking, laughing, or doing anything with their heart stopped, let alone when the heart has been shredded by some nasty bade. When the heart stops, everything else does, immediately. Each time I see that scene with Picard laughing with a blade through his chest I wonder what kind of ignorant fool wrote it. In fact, I wonder about the chain of fools that allowed that scene to be part of the final cut.

No flair for the dramatic in your world? It's fiction, not a documentary. No fools involved, just people who understand what looks dramatic or cool. If you want a realistic portrayal of a blade through the heart there are better places to look than Star Trek.

Assuming the heart was shredded. It's possible that only the pericardium was punctured and the heart wall damaged, rather than the heart itself being impaled.

Guess he just doesn't have Faith of the Heart.

Condemn them all to death for this inexcusable offense against humanity.

I don't question the science, however wonky - ever.

If you start doing that you'd never stop wanting to shoot your TV like Elvis Presley...

Just keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times and enjoy the ride.
