S4 coming Nov 18!

Anthony Rapp just confirmed the Netflix launch date is the 19th. I do wonder why the lack of promotion, perhaps the impending launch of Paramount+ globally has soured things somewhat?

It seems to me that in general there's been a lot less focus on promotion for Discovery this season? Perhaps they figure the show has the fans it has, and won't really expand beyond this.

Honestly given how the Netflix algorithm works, I'm always notified as soon as a new season of my show is available the next time I go to the site. I'm not sure they need to do more than that.

Yeah, I don't see them investing more money in to advertising at this point. Those who are watching will get alerted to new episodes, and those who are not watching probably are not going to.

In general I have to say I don't think Netflix (or Amazon Prime, etc.) does much to promote shows. The bigger shows drop trailers on Youtube, and get a bit of buzz before coming out on review sites, but many of the lesser-known titles just have a stealth drop and then the algorithm suggests it to you.

I could have sworn one of the press releases about when the show was renewed for a fourth season said it would only be ten episodes. Can't find any such thing now though.

Oh, OK! Well, that's... potentially good, haha.

I was wondering if it was maybe from those old industry filming log things we were all looking at several months ago. At one point, I know somebody here was claiming the plan was for fourth and fifth seasons to be filmed concurrently, but this was before COVID really got its clutches on the world. And I think they also said each season would be 10 episodes.

But I cannot for the life of me remember how much of that even happened, let alone the authenticity. :P

Paramount+’s press releases today included the writer/director credits and a description for the season premiere.

Episode 401: “Kobayashi Maru” (Available to stream Thursday, November 18th)

After months spent reconnecting the Federation with distant worlds, Captain Michael Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery are sent to assist a damaged space station – a seemingly routine mission that reveals the existence of a terrifying new threat.

It’s been confirmed by Star Trek, though. It was something they’ve said since Star Trek Day this year, confirmed more recently by actors, as mentioned by others earlier, and seems to be confirmed in the information at the end of every article StarTrek.com posts about the new season.

For example, in an article about Season 4 posted to StarTrek.com a couple days ago the information at the end of the article includes this portion:

Star Trek: Discovery streams exclusively on Paramount+ in the US, is distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries & in Canada on CTV Sci-Fi Channel & Crave.

‪So it’s still happening, Netflix just isn’t using any resources/spending any money on promoting it, probably because Paramount+ is trying to grow its international presence and is more of direct competitor for Netflix as a whole than when they originally made the Discovery deal.

Second Edit: Looking at the Twitter thread that confirms that it isn’t coming to NetflixUK, in the same account’s responses further down the thread they seem to cast doubt on it being *actually* confirmed, or at least seem open to things changing by Friday.

‪‪I really hope it’s available in all the regions expecting it on Netflix with no hassle!

I'm a bit concerned that season 4 hasn't shown up on Netflix UK on this week's releases yet.

At the moment we are still awaiting an official update from CBS/Netflix about this but it seems it won't be on Netflix and we will have to wait until 2022 in the UK/Europe or paramount +

Interesting that they had to pay Netflix to. allow them to have the property. So more evidence that Star Trek Discovery is very much a viable commodity for Paramount + considering how much money Netflix was paying them to broadcast it.
