Reviews are starting to come in for the Venom sequel. As with the first, opinions are split. Essentially, it seems that if you like what you got out of the first one, you will like what you get out of the sequel. Likewise, if you didn't care for the first one, you probably won't like this one.

Speaking for myself, I was kind of "meh" on the first one and in the current environment, I would feel better off just waiting for home streaming. Hell, I haven't even seen Shang-Chi yet.

Anyway come bring your spoilers here.

That was the impression I got from the trailer. There is this hyper monster drink EXTREME! vibe about these movies that reminds me of the old Spawn movie more than more recent fare which admittedly does reflect the old 90s era where these comics ruled.

Ooh... That mid-credits scene is much more interesting than people were expecting.

Having been inadvertently spoiled, I tend to agree.

I just got back from seeing the film. Some parts I loved (Eddie and Venom's banter), some I was "meh" toward (the final battle). Although for the final battle, I appreciate it paying tribute to the classic way of Spidey defeating Venom (the church bells). A lot of the cathedral sequence right up to the fight was very Tim Burton-esque, including the music.

I'm glad they didn't leave Carnage and Kletus Casady as an open-ended thing. The characters were fine as a one-off but too dangerous storywise to leave around.

I actually did the 3D version and while not Avatar-impressive, it really felt like they actually tried with the 3D on this one - unlike most other 3D films of recent years.

I am going to call that mid-credits event "The Flash" (with apologies to DC Comics). What caused it? Is it The Emergence (from Eternals)? Is is Kang's handiwork (from Loki and What If...?)? Is is Doctor Strange messing things up with his spell (Spider-Man: No Way Home)? Now that they've teased that, Marvel and Sony can't go back.

    For what it's worth...

Tom Hardy was spotted wearing a "No Way Home" Cast/Crew baseball cap a while back.

I think Sony was only projecting $71M so that’s pretty impressive.

Let There Be Carnage has hit $400M at the box office. This thread has pretty low activity for a movie that's doing not half bad at the box office. Has anyone seen this yet? As I said up thread, the first one didn't do enough for me to want to go to a theater for the 2nd in the current environment, but I am looking forward to home release. But, obviously, some people out there are watching it.

I was curious too. A coworker of mine went and saw it but didn't really have high praise for it. The original was not enjoyable for me so I have no desire to seek it out.

It's now the third highest grossing (western) film worldwide of the COVID era. I enjoyed it more than the critics did but at the same time I have to ask HOW!!!

Do people really like Tom Hardy arguing with himself that much? Because if you take him out of it you've basically got a mid-1990s straight-to-video horror movie.

People like horror and Venom and Carnage always had a weird following.

Honestly, I think I enjoyed the scenes of Eddie and Venom squabbling, like some sort of symbiotic superpowered Felix and Oscar than I did the action scenes. As with the first film, Hardy appears to be acting in an altogether superior film, but he’s clearly enjoying himself. I think I’d watch a 3rd film that was just them sitting in front of the tv for 90 minutes arguing about what to watch.

The most interesting thing was the mid-credits scene. I was expecting to see Michael Keaton (I forgot that it’s Morbius he appears in), so when I heard that voice and saw that other character, I was quite taken aback.

It's a bit of a palette cleanser from the MCU, for better and worse it's not as anodyne and polished, kind of like a grindhouse Marvel movie. I don't know what I'd objectively rank it on a good movie scale and it wasn't anything that hasn't been done before but I didn't regret the 90 some minutes I spent with it.

Am I in the right thread for this? Only one page so far for a movie that came out at the beginning of October?

I watched this tonight at the cinema. I wasn't a fan of the first movie. I didn't like the comedic elements that the rest of the audience found interesting in the first film, but I expected that this would be the $ point in the eyes of Sony. In this second film they lean more into those comedic/odd couple elements. I was ok with them in this film. Maybe because I gave up on the idea of a more serious Venom film. But I liked this sequel a lot more because it decided to pick a tone and stick with it. It's definitely more kid friendly. I did laugh in parts. I think what I liked best about it was that this is a hero who doesn't get the girl. It's surprisingly refreshing.

What is this "theatrical widow" that is in the quote from Adrian Smith? Is it supposed to be "theatrical window?" It seems that Variety removed the comment feature. It looks like the only way to contact them to let them know about the typo is the "news tip" thing.

Anyway, I found this quite entertaining. It was a nice break from the MCU stuff.

Edit: they corrected the typo after I submitted it as a "news tip." That was fast!

I wonder what it would've taken to get Juliette Lewis to have taken the role as Woody's girlfriend in this because that would've made up for a lot of sins.

So by the end of next week this is expected to reach 500 million worldwide and that's without China where the first movie made a huge amount of money. Even better when you think it probably cost half what Eternals did and that'll just be hitting 400 million at the same time.
