"Holding cell" shows they have utterly forgotten this is Horatio Hornblower in spaaaaace. :sigh:

Interesting bits of machinery in there, tho. Nice to have an engineering hull that lives up to the name.

(Now if there only were a way to actually view the show...)

Makes sense for there to be at least one brig cell. Even if your crew is only, say, 20 if even one behaves irrationally or otherwise becomes a danger to themselves and the rest of the ship you need a place to confine them until they're deemed safe to return to the general population. Even the NX-01 had a brig with at least two cells and that was in the earliest decades of human deep space exploration.

??? All previous series had them.
    Unless you're being sarcastic.

    It's a kinder, gentler, brig.

I still think the tinier 1 or 2 person occupancy Brigs of the NX Class makes more sense than a single large Brig.

I think it makes no darn sense that the brig door's power went out. Even when one "diverts all power," there must be essential systems that are isolated--e.g., the LCARS panels don't all go black--and brig containment would be one of them.

    That's why I think the Brig needs a re-design.
Force Field on the Inside, then Transparent Metal layer like on the NX Class, then metal bars on the outside.

Even if the Force Field is down, it takes real work to bypass all those layers of containment.

Betting that there's a safety reason for it somewhere in Starfleet regs.

Well, Mike Burnham was saved by her cell virtua-door refusing to budge when "safety" became an issue (i.e. when the wall went away).

But in good old Trek, it's never "cell". It's always just "brig". We first get treated to "detention cell" in TNG "The Hunted", and there it rightly refers to one cell within the brig complex. (On that PRO MSD, it appears to refer to a facility that in fact features at least two cells.)

    ... Bunk beds...
I'll live in the Brig until it has a customer.. atleast that has a LARGE cell and privacy!
as said, a brig should be a brig, and the NX one is a good example, small crampt, a bed.. and not much more.

That's a good point...the brig had more space than the sleeping quarters!

Which is a tendency of post-ENT Era Starfleet ships. Even TOS brigs were the same size or even bigger than the part of a crewmember's quarters containing the bed. Brigs only got bigger with the century.

Which I think is a flaw IMO.

They need to seperate them into smaller individual cells like on ST:ENT.

Isolate them to be "Sound Proof", Have a Physical Barrier behind the Force Field.

Force Field is there to prevent the prisoner from messing with the Cell Door.

The Cell Door needs to be "Multi-Layered" so that even if you accidentally take away the power, it's not easy to escape, even for a changeling.

The force field should really encompass the entire cell, TBH, to make it hard for Changelings, as well as prevent what happened in TFF. The only weak spot would be the ventilation system, which would need to have the force field flicker at random intervals to allow air to flow in and out at high positive and negative pressures, respectively.

    Energy Fields to the rescue.
Just divide the larger space into two or three smaller ones with forcefields.

That's not as energy efficient as making 2 or 3 smaller Brigs from the beginning.

    Starfleet doesn't believe in efficiency.
